Visiting Ireland in July- Interested in ancestors- McHale and McNalty family experiences
Hello Ireland XO community,
I’ll be visiting Ireland in early July. I’m so excited to explore County Mayo, especially the areas around Terrybaun, Addergoole Parish, Lahardane, and Cuillkilliew, where my ancestors lived before emigrating to the United States.
My third great-grandmother, Honora (Nora) McHale, was born on August 11, 1859, in Terrybaun, County Mayo, and baptized the same day in Addergoole Parish. Her parents were Michael McHale (1816–1876) and Catharine McNalty (1823–1927). Catherine lived to the remarkable age of 104 and died in Terrybaun.
I would love to learn more about the McHale and McNalty families from this region — especially any records, town connections, or cemeteries that may still be accessible. If anyone is familiar with these families or could suggest places to visit while I’m there, I would be truly grateful.
Thank you so much for any guidance or local knowledge you’re willing to share. I’m looking forward to walking where my ancestors once lived and connecting with the community.
Thank you,
Lisa
