My husband has traced his line back to James Evan Egan (b. 1792 - d. 1845) and his wife, Ellen Kelly (b. Abt 1795). Their daughter, Ellen M. Egan was born in County Mayo about 1826. She married James Higgins on 3 Feb 1843 in Illinois, USA and died on 12 Nov 1913. Would appreciate it if anyone knows which parish this family was from along with any other information on the Egan and Kelly families.
Thank you!
Hi Carolyn,
Do you know much about Ellen's emigration? Dates, the reason why she left, etc.? Generally more information was given at the port of arrival rather than the port of departure. If you knew which city they arrived at (e.g. via Liverpool, New York etc...), this could be a good place to find more information, and perhaps even find out an exact place of origin.

Hi,
Don't know if this will help, but maybe worth a look. I have narrowed my search for my ancestor Thomas Egan. One of the few records that were kept and not burned from the unrest in the area. I did see a James Egan in my searchs, not sure if it's your James. Thomas was listed in a few places in Mayo, I am considering he may be the one listed in Eden,Knock, Mayo. Hope this helps...
Regards,
Bill Egan
Hi g-grandmother was Mary (Kelly) Dogherty of Belgarrow, Foxford Mayo. She came to Philadelphia PA c. 1886 with one son and 5 daughters. She was born c. 1840 with her father being possibly one of the following:
Griffith’s 1856:
MICHAEL KELLY MAYO 1856 BELGARROW TOOMORE
THOMAS KELLY MAYO 1856 BELGARROW TOOMORE
PATRICK KELLY MAYO 1856 BELGARROW TOOMORE
Her son married Rose Kerrigan and her daughters' husbands were Patrick O'Hara, Charles Rudolph and Edgar Carey. I hope to find a Kelly researcher who is working on the same line.
