Did Thomas McNamara emigrate? How are James and John McNamara related to Thomas? Louisburgh RC parish records do not start until 1850.
Roger McDonnell
Thomas emigrated to England sometime before the 1851 census, lived in Dunholm Lincolnshire in 1851, then married Mary Hasty on Oct 4 1855, both arriving on November 18 1855 in NY Harbour. His marriage cert claims his father John was deceased, BUT his first born son was James. So James could/should be his father using standard naming conventions.

I would rely on a civil marriage record rather than the normal naming conventions.
I looked at the 1827-1830 Tithe records for Kilmeena (Inishturk) and Kilgeever (Louisburgh) civil parishes and did not see any McNamara records. Likely John McNamara was a labourer.

I'm pretty sure he and the family were landless laborers who moved from place to place wherever/whenever work was available. The only other clue i have is that a Margy..Margaret McNamara visited thomas in the NYS 1892 census.. The chance that anyone anywhere has a record of them/him is getting smaller and smaller.
Don,
If you Iook at the 1892 NYS census, "Margy" might actuaIIy be Mary, Thomas's wife. She was definiteIy aIive at that time. The age is in Iine with her age in earIier censuses too.
Don,
WouId you be abIe to post the records showing that Thomas was from Louisburgh, and Inishbofin and Inishturk islands? AIso, the marriage record? Thank you.
In the 1930 U.S. federaI census, JuIia McNamara's parents (Thos. and Mary) were said to be born in the Irish Free State--that is, the 26 counties making up the Irish repubIic.
