James Murray in Foxford

Mayo

Hi. I've been researching my Gleeson and Haddican family tree for a while. I'm always hitting a brick wall but manage to find the tiniest of snippets of info that gives me a new lead.

My ancestor Mary Ann Haddican lived with a family in a small town called Wirksworth in Derbyshire called the Murray family.

She is listed on the 1861 census as the cousin of the head of the family who was Patrick Murray, born in Mayo but also listed as Foxford, Mayo?

He was born in 1833 and married Bridget Murray born 1835. All are listed as Rag Collectors as were my two family lines.

Bridget Murray has Treland in Roscommon as her birth place. She also has a son James Murray who was born in Foxworth which I'm assuming is Foxford unless it's a township name.

Mary Ann Haddican came over to England with her family from Bekan Parish. I'm trying to narrow down the connection between the Murray and Haddican families.

Foxford (Toomore) RC baptismal records do not start until 1871. There is no townland called Treland in Co. Roscommon.

"Bridget Murray has Treland in Roscommon "

Is this on the census? Does it perhaps mean "IreIand--Roscommon." Not TreIand?

Hi, Did Mary Haddican marry a GIeason? If so, the 1911 census notes she was from BaIIyhaunis.

In the 1861 census, did you see that there is a John Haddican on the same page as Mary?

Hi Patricia. The Treland is so obvious!!! I just didn't put two and two together!! Sorry. The Haddican families arrived after 1841 and before 1851 into Derbyshire. There's at least three families, but two have no husband and we have no maiden names. The only link we've found is the Murray family with the cousin Mary Haddican. She's not married so her father was/is a Haddican. We just don't know which one. Thank you for all of your help. This website is amazing.
