The Hunt for Hunts

Kilbeagh (Mayo)

Since, linking DNA results to the Kilbeagh Parish of County Mayo, I have been trying to link together some Hunt families, because my great grandmother was Nabby Hunt and a cousin's ancestor John Hunt is linked to Roosky.

If the fathers listed on Civil Marriage documents are not deceased, I'll check for Civil Death Records.

Attached is a death record for Thomas Hunt and the Civil Marriage record linking Thomas to a possible daughter, Bridget.

My focus has been on Townland of Gowlaun.

My current question is about the Death Record entry of, "Lackey Hunt Inmate. Gowlaun Occupier Deceased".

Is there a Workhouse in Gowlaun? I wouldn't guess there would be.

Could an inmate of a Workhouse, say in Swinford, inform about a death in Gowlaun?

The workhouse was in Swinford. It looks like Thomas Hunt died two weeks after the marriage of Bridget. The death record entry is confusing. I believe Lacky was the informant of the death of Thomas and he was shown as an inmate of the house in Gowlaun. What is confusing is the word deceased. Likely it applies to Thomas.

Gowlaun is a large townland-957 acres and there were 73 households in the 1901 census including 11 Hunt households.

Thanks for your take and confirmation of Swinford Workhouse.

Here's a follow up question: Bridget is recorded as 19 years of age, Thomas is recorded as 80 years of age.

I realize recorded ages are subject to some degree of error, but would it be unlikely for Thomas to father a child, Bridget, at approximately 60 years of age?

Kelly:

Someone age 60 could father a child. The Carracastle baptismal records start in 1853 too late for a record for Bridget.
