McCanns of Lavy More

Thank you for your response and I'll contact St. James Charlestown.

My O'Donnell great-great grandparents, John and Mary (Duffy), are buried in St. James Carracastle and I will be visiting their grave also.  My father visited 25 years ago and made contact with a relative, Paddy Hunt, but both men have since passed.

I have emailed St. James Charlestown but in looking at online maps, I see a Temple Cemetery south of Charlestown but no Tample.

Where would the Tample/St. James Cemetery be in relation to Charlestown?

In response to your posting about Tample and Temple Cemetery - I visited it a few years ago and took pictures of all or most of the graves. I was told it was Temple but pronounced as Tample. It is south of Charlestown. You take N17 south from Charlestown and turn left at the white sign with black lettering that says "On Caiseal, Cashel, L5336. Above/Behind it is a brown sign that says Temple Graveyard. It is a small lane that goes back behind a building on the left and turns left behind the building. Just after it you find a stone building on the left and on the right you will see the cemetery behind a stone wall with a black iron gate. Here is the link from google maps/earth:

I am connected to Thomas McCann and Anne Owens thru marriage - there son John married Bridget Hopkins my second cousin 3x removed. John and Bridget had 2 children that I'm aware of - Mary Ellen (DOB 21 Apr 1905) and Thomas (DOB 10 Jan 1911)

I also have Duffys in my tree along with others from Lavy More - mostly Mulloys. I do have an O'Donnell:

Below is everything I have on John McCann and Bridget Hopkins.  Another relative gave me info on John's sister Ellen and her husband Patrick Lavan.  I'd be interested if you have anything on the other McCann siblings: Patrick, Winifred, and Thomas.

The only Mulloys I have are the ones associated with Bridget Hopkins.

I do have Maria O'Donnell.  There were two couples named Dominick O'Donnell and Mary Doherty married in St. James Church in 1857 and Maria was the daughter of one couple.  I've identified 11 children whose parents were Dominick O'D and Mary Doherty but I don't know which children go with which parents.  Some of the children emigrated to the US.

One of my O'Donnell relatives (Charles J.) who emigrated married Catherine Duffy in Philadelphia in 1905.  I don't know her parents but she had at least three Duffy relatives in Philadelphia: Madeline, Michael, and William.

Brendan - but the McCanns, and O'Donnells are in-laws so the most I entered on my tree is their parents. Any chance you're on ancestry.com? For the O'Donnels, there's a tree under the user name EllinP that seems to be well documented.

Re; the marriage of 18th March 1899 between John McCann and Bridget Hopkins , Bridget was the daughter of Patrick Hopkins and Mary Mulloy , there were a few Mary Mulloys in the village and she could only be the daughter of either Bryan or James Mulloy . Mary Hopkins nee Mulloy died aged about 50 18th Oct 1886 . Going by the sponsors of the marriage , Denis Mulloy and Catherine McGloughlin , Denis Mulloy was married to a Catherine Mcgloughlin but why she would use her maiden name is a mystery , or there was another Catherine Mc Gloughlin around . 

I am descended from James Mulloy and from Dominick Harrington from Laveymore , William Harrington may have been a brother to Dominick . I have looked at this village for years and it always amazes me how closely related the village was , either by blood or marriage . PJBstamper on this thread is also a relation . All residents of the village would have a very high probability of being buried in Carracastle , but headstones would have been a luxury that hardly any would be able to afford until in the last 50 years or so .

Hi-I just came across this thread and if is possible, Linda (Hess née Rooney) could I view the photos from the Tample cemetary? Thanks for your reply..  During my 2016 visit, I looked at all the headstones in Carracastle and Temple cemeteries without finding ones for Thomas and Anne McCann so it looks like they couldn't afford them, as you indicated.

In 1990, my parents visited Charlestown and my father, John O'Donnell, stopped in the O'Donnell Pharmacy thinking they would be related.  The owner was familiar with the family history and said he and my father were not related but he telephoned Paddy Hunt who was a cousin through the Duffy family.  Paddy gave my parents a tour through Charlestown and Carracastle and, several years later, shared the records he had gleaned from St. James Church and Irish civil records.

I am researching a family where I know some were buried in Temple Cemetery. If anyone (includign Linda Hess nee Rooney) had access to the photos of the cemetery I would very much like to search them.
