The townland was Cartron. Below are the 1901 and 1911 census records for your family.

Roger -- Thank you for such a quick response. We are planning a trip in August and hope to see actual places where the family lived. Would you have a suggestion for how to go about doing that?
Not sure which direction you are coming from to get to Charlestown. It is situated between Swinford town in Mayo and Ballaghaderreen town in Roscommon on the N5 main highway. They opened a N5 bypass around Charlestown in 2007 so make sure you take the local road to get there. I've given you a link to the Charlestown library and also to the Riverside restaurant in the town. You may want to go to the library first to get situated and get directions.
The townland of Cartron is about 4 miles west of the town on the N5 as you are coming in from Swinford to Charlestown. Fauleens is about 4 miles southeast of Charlestown and you will need directions locally to get there.
Let me know if you have further questions.
Roger
Oh Roger you are terrific. I'm home for lunch (people always find a New Yorker home for lunch unusual), and already started visiting the Mayo Library. Lots there for me to learn before getting their in August. Thank you for the B&B link, too. This site has become much better since local people have started to help your cousins and what a brilliant idea. Thank you. Thank you.
You are welcome! I live near Baltimore Maryland.
