Ballaghaderren Area and Unknown townland

Castlemore (Mayo)Castlemore (Roscommon)

Hello,

Please view attached Civil Marriage record. My question is where is Thomas Grady's residence?

Further sources of his children's baptism's in the Castlemore and Kilcolman Parish also record Derrinaslieve or other spellings as residence.

I've been unable to find a standard in John Grenham's or Townlands.ie.

This is County Mayo or maybe County Roscommon.

Please advise

Best regards,

Kelly Hunt

Kelly,

I’d guess it may be Derrynasleeve, which appears to be a sub-townland in Cloonalumney in the civil parish of Kilcolman, Mayo.

Griffiths lists a Martin Grady farming there in 1857 with 17 acres. Plot 100. He’s likely Thomas’s father.

From Google AI…

Derrinaslieve is a townland in County Mayo, Ireland, located in the Derrindaffderg Commons area of the Ballintober Civil Parish.

Derrindaffderg Commons is part of the Tawnynagry ED and Barony.

From Griffith’s Valuation…

A Martin Grady (likely the father of Thomas) was found in Griffith’s in 1857, as follows:

Griffith           Grady         Martin           Derrynasleeve           Kilcolman   Co. Mayo

Kelly:

See the fourth paragraph at this link https://sites.rootsweb.com/~irlmayo2/kilcolman_cp_costello_characteristics.html As Elwyn indicated Derrynaslieve/Derrynasleeve was a sub-townland within the townland of Cloonlumney. At the time of the marriage, the Gradys were in Mayo but the townland of Cloonlumney was moved to Co. Roscommon (along with other townlands) as a result of the Local Government Act of 1898.

Thanks all for your insight

Oh, these sub townlands brings up another question. I have seen these sub notations for the Rooskey Townland in Kilbeagh, Swinford, County Mayo.

Are there sources or maps that I can reference to identify subtownlands?

Kelly:

I meant to respond earlier. I'm not aware of sources which identify sub-townlands.

Thanks Roger,

I noticed townlands.ie has a line item for Sub Townlands, however wasn't successful at finding any listed.
