Birth cert Mary 18th March 1882
I searched for a birth cert for Delia Meagh but the only cert I found was for an Anne Meagh born 1891, the name Delia was usually a pet name for Bridget/Margaret etc, I wonder is this Anne your 'Delia'
Found a Delia Meagh on this 1911 census for Knock South
Your help is much appreciated. Thank you.
Are you able to describe to me how my Catholic ancestors came to own the land they farmed? How they might have raised funds for purchasing a house and land?
Also, can you direct me to any records that might suggest what my ancestors did to survive the famines over the years? I have read some histories and wonder which segment of society they survived within, employed? Workhouse survivors? Etc
Many thanks,
Lynda.
Hi Lynda,
If you do travel over to the Knock area in search of your ancestors home place, a visit to the museum in knock would be well worth your time. It contains many displays and artefacts from the locality.
Also well worth a visit is the National museum of Ireland, museum of country life in Turlough, outside Castlebar. Fantastic displays on all aspects of country life in the 19th century.

Thank you Caren,
That's really good to know! I'm very grateful for your assistance and will make sure I follow your advice when I next visit Ireland.
With gratitude,
Lynda.
Hello again,
I have booked a holiday in Ireland from 3rd to 10th August, staying at a hotel in Castlebar.
Having seen that a meet and greet may be possible along with advice in person from a local expert, is there any further advice you can give me regarding my visit?
I'd love to tread in my ancestor's footsteps, see their former homes and lands worked by them..
With many thanks in advance,
Lynda Murtagh Jones.
Lynda:
I just forwarded an e-mail message to you from Mary Murphy. Check your Gmail account.

Lynda,
While in Mayo, you might like to visit Achill Island, a very beautiful area, and the Mullet Peninsula. Be sure to visit the emigrant memorial in the southern part of the peninsula. Enjoy.
