Roots Ireland subscriptions

I have not yet subscribed to Roots Ireland for further searches for my various ancestors. What does this site add over sites like irishgenealogy.ie, the NLI online parish records, and Family Search? Do they have more holdings, a broader range of dates?

I am getting back to planning my heritage trip and also want to know whether it is worth visiting any county heritage centers while there? I want to prioritize seeing the land and meeting the people, so if I can access records and resources online I would want to do so. Might it be helpful to set up a meeting with a genealogist/local historian at each place I visit?

I have decided to split the trip into two different visits, so I can savor my time at each place. This fall I hope to visit the Cooley Peninsula in Louth (my Toner/Cassidy relatives), pass through the Killucan/Croghan parish area of Roscommon (Dowd), and spend a chunk of time in Mayo (Roach/Malley), Castlebar parish but also more of that county as well.

appreciate your wisdom!

Roots Ireland depending on the county has Church records beyond 1881 where NLI stops. For example, Co. Louth, Co. Roscommon and Co. Mayo South have church records up to 1900. Co. Mayo North has records up to 1923. As you know, irishgenealogy.ie has civil birth records until 1923, marriage records until 1948 and death records until 1973.

I can't comment on the value of meeting someone at one of the heritage centers. Their records should all be available online via a subscription.

When you finalize your plans please fill out a Meet and Greet form for each county of interest. Thanks!
