McBride Family of Carrickacreagh, Louth Civil Parish, Castlering Electoral Division, County Louth, Ireland

Louth

My McBride family immigrated to Rochester, NY in the 1860's.  I have traced the family back to Carrickacreagh, Knockbridge with civil and church records.  I plan to visit Ireland in 2025 and hope to meet a relative in Ireland.

Slan,

Michael McCabe

Hello Michael, I am the local volunteer but live about 25 miles from Knockbridge so have no information on those living there now, however there was a book on the History of Knockbridge by Padraig O'Neill in 1994,not now available but I have a copy given to me by a friend and see there is a McBride grave listed with the person from Carrickacreagh, of a total of 5 McBride entries two are from the right townland,

1st one is Erected by Catherine Lavery in loving memory of her father Patrick McBride, Carrickacreagh, who died October 20th 1896, also her brothers Peter & Joseph McBride, her mother Julia McBride who died Sept 28th 1920 and her brother Patrick who died August 22 1920.

The other entry is later In loving memory of Mary Ann McBride Carrickacreagh, Knockbridge who died 15th January 1981 aged 83 years. RIP

There are also a lot of McCabes listed there.

I know a man from Knockbridge and will see if I can glean any information about McBrides, the book mentioned is out of print as far as I know but should be availabe to read in Dundalk library, there are a lot of photos from the 1940 to 1960s in it and will check to see if any McBrides mentioned.

Good Luck

Eileen,

Yes this is my friends  family.  I have identified most of the civil and church records and the 1901 and 1911 census.

I just posted this on FB Louth Genealogy:

I have just identified the ancestral home for my friend, Michael McBride with written documentation and now DNA matches.  His 2nd great grandfather, Mathew McBride 1814-1866 was from Carrickacreagh, Knockbridge, County Louth, Ireland.  Mathew went to Brockport, NY, USA in 1866 following family already in the USA.  His son, John Joseph McBride is better known as “Exile”McBride” a famous Irish Fenian and Irish Freedom Fighter from Buffalo, NY.

Michael’s DNA has matches with other American McBrides from New Jersey that came to the USA.Their family immigrated later to America and left a treasure of civil and church records in Ireland connecting the two families.

There were still McBrides living in Carrickacreagh in the 1901 and 1911 Census.  Michael McBride is planning a trip this summer and hopes to find an Irish relative.  I would appreciate any help with finding relatives in the parish.
