Finnigans of Louth

Louth

Ellen Keeley died in New York in 1895. Her death certificate gave her parents as William and Ellen Finnigan of Ireland. Ellen was born about 1815 and emigrated when she was about 12. She had an older sister Margaret. An 1880 record indicates Ellen was born in County Louth. I have searched all of the on-line databases known to me and have not found any William Finnigan (variously spelt) with a wife Ellen or daughter Ellen or Margaret in the early 19th-century parish records. What I did find is that Finnigan is a common name in Louth. Have I missed anything? Thanks. Donald

As you've probably seen on this board, death records are one of the least reliable. The parents' names are often wrong because the person providing the information was misinformed, grieving, confused, etc., or the person writing it down made a mistake. If you can find the marriage record, in which Ellen herself would have provided her parents' names, that would be more reliable. You might also look at the names given on Margaret's records, if you have not done so. Good luck!

Try contacting the church where Ellen married (in Schenectady?); her parents' names will probably be in the marriage record.
