Great-grandfather Patrick Harmon

Hi Susan, there is a Patrick born in 1863 in Termonfeckin, mother Mary Ward, father James. No occupation given for father. Also why do you say the spouse was born in England, the name Gartland; Garland; Gartlandy is found mainly around the Castlebellingham area, they are variants of the same name.

I will see what other children are born to the couple, Haggardstown is about 10 miles from Termonfeckin.

Susan, I see the address on the marriage certificate as England, however the census of 1901 and 1911 say she was born in Louth, maybe a mistake.

Also the age on the marriage certificate is given as Full which is 21 which rules out the 1866 birth, his age on the census in 1901 is 37, born in 1864 and in 1911 is 52 born 1859, his age at death as 84 gives a birth of 1866 as you have but I think the age as Full shows an earlier birth, I only see the 1863 birth to a father James but again not full age in 1883, there is an 1852 baptism also in Togher, again Mid Louth but too early for the census..

I will have another look tomorrow, I see no Irish birth in Louth for an Elizabeth, two female births with a father Christopher in Drogheda, different mothers. I still think Haggardstown has a logic, usually marry in wifes parish.

Susan,  I tried to figure out the address of Pat on the marriage but cannot make out the townland and nothing like it appears in the townland website, https://www.townlands.ie/ these are civil areas and may have a different local or church address.

Looking at deaths for James Harmon, there were three up to 1911 and the most obvious one was the one in Martinstown but the person present at death is his son Andrew, who made his mark while Pat could read and write. Also Andrew was not a name on the census for Pat family. It is possible James died after 1911 but you can search that yourself anyway. Of the other 3 I found one was too difficult to read, one was too young and the other man live in Ardee town so not a farmer. The one I could not read resulted in an inquest but again I cannot really read it, in this case the registration district is Ardee.

So we need more information to establish a definite parentage. I searched Roots Ireland and included counties neighbouring Louth.
