Thomas Francis Morrissey

Limerick

Searching the life of my great grandfather THOMAS FRANCIS MORRISSEY believed born Limerick Ireland circa 1851.  His mother’s first name was GRACE.  He died Armidale , Australia on 15 February 1933.   He migrated to the USA sailing on the “City of Brussels’ and arrived in New York on 22 July 1872.  He later migrated to Australia sailing on the “Star of the West” and arrived in Sydney on 11 September 1877.  He married ANNIE ELIZABETH FITZGERALD on 14 April 1884 at Armidale, Australia.  He was a carpenter and lived and worked in Armidale Australia the remainder of his life. 

I would like to know more of his life in Ireland including birth date, parents, siblings if any, relatives etc.

I searched on the subscription site Roots Ireland and found a December 16 1846 baptismal record for a Thomas Morrissey with father Patrick Morrissey and mother Grace Mulcahy. The RC parish was Manister. Thomas had the following siblings Sarah 1842 John 1843 Patrick 1850 Michael 1852 Denis 1854. Possibly this is your Thomas Morrissey. Many immigrants made themselves younger when they arrived in their new country.

Another name for the RC parish of Manister was Fedamore. Here is a link to a Facebook page for the parish  https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1999283133604546&type=3&comment_id=1069055393753964 There is also the church of St. Michael in Manister.

The 1850 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing shows a Patrick Morrissey in Fanningstown townland in Fedamore civil parish.

Thank you for the information to date.  However, I have a marriage certificate, birth certificates of his two children, and a death certificate for THOMAS FRANCIS MORRISSEY that give variable birth years for him of 1849 to 1851.  The year 1846 you give seems too inconsistent with everything I have.  

Could you please search the Cork Ireland records for a record of his birth.  I have information that he may have been born in Cork not Limerick.

I checked Roots Ireland and the free site irishgenealogy.ie for Thomas Morrissey baptismal records (mother Grace) from 1845-1855 in Co. Cork and there were no records.
