Thomas Coskeran: Townland of Ballygeana, Parish of Gabally, County LImerick
I am trying to find the ancestors of Thomas Coskeran: Townland of Ballygeana, Parish of Gabally, County LImerick. Its a bit difficult because it appears to me that there are many variations in the spelling of the surname.
For example; I've used Ireland XO's very own Search menu and located 3 references:
Source Surname First Name Townland Parish County
1 Tithe Applotment Books Corkeran Thomas 1830 Ballyana Galbally Rd Co. Limerick
NOTE: Although Ballyana Townland was written in the index of the Books for Co. Limerick (https://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/reels/tab/004587444/004587444_00016.pdf) did not exist so I assume it is Ballygeana
2 Griffith Corkran Thomas Ballygeana Galbally Co. Limerick
3 Limerick People 1799-1867 Corkeran Thomas 1829 Ballyyeanea Co. Limerick
NOTE: BallyyeaneaTownland did not exsit so I assume it is Ballygeana
I found a Thos Corkeran in the 1830 Applotment of Tithes Book for the Parish of Galbally, Union of Duntryleague, Barony of Costlea, County Limerick: Townland of Upper Ballyana
Appearing in lines 444-446,Thomas Coskeran (20 acres) John Donovan (see Note A) and to the right of their two names there appears to be a bracket symbol ( } , usually used to group things).
The next two lines are
445 John & Michael Coskeran (19 acres)
and
446 John & Michael Coskeran (40 acres). LIkely Thomas' sons.
Interestingly, listed on the very next page (page 29 of the orig'l doc.) in the adjacent Townland of Baunteen a gegraphically very close neighbour, Denis Noonan, listed in rows 449 and 450. ( or see https://titheapplotmentbooks.nation
alarchives.ie/reels/tab//004587444/004587444_00046.pdf ) Could he be one of the witnesses listed below in the marriage of John Donovan and Mary Coskeran ( https://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/reels/tab//004587444/004587444_00046.pdf )
The Griffiths Valuation for Co. LImerick Townland of Balllygeana (about 1851) lists Thomas, Thomas Jr and John Corkran. griffiths.askaboutireland.ie/gv4/z/zoomifyDynamicViewer.php?file=163069&path=./pix/163/&showpage=1&mysession=2924057017998&width=&height=&debug=https://

Surname: Corkran County: Limerick
Click Search button and listed are Thomas, Thomas Jr and John Corkran and also a Denis Noonan.
NOTE A. I believe this John Donovan may be my 3rd Great Grandfather who emmigrated with his family in 1842. In ROOTS IRELAND xo I found the Sept 21, 1816 Church Marriage Record for: John Donovan and Mary Coskeran
in the Parish of Galbally & Aherlow. Witnesses: Thomas Coskeran and a Denis Nunan (could this be the same Dennis Noonan mentioned above in the Tithes?) and Thomas Coskeran. ( https://rootsireland.ie/ifhf/view_detail.php?recordid=73159&type=mch&recordCentre=limerick&page=1&n=1&backLink=quis.php&sc=0 ) There are many other records in Co. Limerick, Parish of Galbally & Aherlow of marriages of Donovan and Coskeran family members as well as them appearing as sponsors of baptisms of relative's children and as witnesses of relatives' marriages BUT it's hard to figure out who's who / the relationships.
Using this info could you assist me finding the Coskeran ancestors (tree) who lived in Ballygeana. I hope to travel to Galbally next year and am trying to pinpoint where my Donovan ancestor John Donovan lived. Thank you in advance for any assistance.
