Looking for McMahons in Limerick

Limerick

I am visiting the lands of my Irish ancestors later this year and wondering if any relatives still live there. My 2nd great grandfather was Michael Joseph McMahon born about 1827, the son of Terence and Ellen. He had several brothers and a sister who also came to Australia. His father died in 1864 in Carey's Road (or Row) Limerick

ML,

If you are coming to Ireland, you should fillout the Meet and Greet form on this website.

Per a tree on Ancestry, Ellen's last name is Kelly.

ML,

On Michael Joseph's death record it shows his mother's name as Mary. Trees on Ancestry suggest her name was Ellen, some suggest her last name was Sullivan?? Do you recognize the Sydney address on Ellen's obituary above?

Carey's Road, Limerick city - runs from peoples park to the south east as far as Roxborough Road - see google maps extract, historic map (c1840 OSI/GeoHive) etc

The Road is sometimes divided in two, Upper and Lower - e.g. 1901 census Carey's Road Upper and Carey's Road Lower.

Thank you all so much for your replies. I do recognise the Obituary so I believe Michael’s mother was Ellen .  I looked back through the records of the St Lawrence cemetery and found Ellen’s record which stated her residence as Carey’s Road . I recognise the address where Michael Joseph died as well. He was an interesting character, a good businessman and very active in public affairs . Unfortunately he lost all his wealth in a property slump in the early 1890’s . He does, however, a have a beautiful Sydney suburb on the Harbour named after him - McMahon’s Point .
