Looking for help finding 2nd great grandparents....

Limerick

I will be in Limerick next week and am searching for family that go back one or more generations from what I now know.

I can find my great-grandfather Patrick O'Connell b. abt. 1862 - 1865 near An Cheapach Mhór, County Limerick, Ireland

He emigrated to USA (Chicago) in 1884 after marrying Ameila Finn (daughter of Michael?) in about 1883.

I am led to believe that his father's name was James O'Connell, and mother was Margaret Ryan - O'Connell. I do not think they emigrated to USA (although there are a James O'Connell and Margart Ryan that did apparently go to Chicago before 1870 (which disqualifies them as the correct parents of my Patrick).

Any help at this late date would be most appreciated!

FYI- I looked at Ancestry and noticed a number of trees had Patrick's parents, Margaret Ryan and James O'Connell in Chicago and dying in 1906. I can confirm they married in Chicago in 1868. Their daughter Ann married my great uncle Patrick Fogarty. There is a tree on Ancestry that identifies the family- kellyjoch

Thank you all! so much help!!!

Mary TV - I don't think this can be the same James and Margaret. My research shows they emigrated to USA prior to 1870, when my Patrick would have only been a small child. As Patrick married (still in Limerick) in September 1883. also, the new records as found by Roger show "my" James dying in Limerick in 1886.....do you agree?

Thank you all!

Mike

Mike,

I agree. I am just mentioning trees on Ancestry seem to have identified the wrong James and Margaret. I think Roger has identified the correct James. Not sure what happened to Margaret.

Thank you, Mary. I deleted that (bad) info from my tree, and you and Roger have helped me get over a hurdle that had been nagging me,

Reference is made to the O'Connell's living in the below house numbers (I think same house, just counted different in each census) ..... Is there any chance this house might still be standing? If so, how could I find it?

Mike,

You might want to fill out a Meet and Greet form on this website. A local volunteer might be able to help you.

mtvrdk@gmail.com

Mike,

The Finns were living in Clonteen. When Patrick got married he was living in Cottage (I assume Doon). See the info Patricia gave you. His brother James was baptized in Cottage, Doon, Limerick.

Patrick's father died in Ballycoshown.

Thank you, mary. I did just fill out a meet and greet for both Limerick and Sligo where I will be earlier in the week

Thank you

Mike.

Mary - I had pieces .... but you added:

  • Sarah's husband (William Fitzgerald)

  • the immigration dates for the four - great example of chain migration!

  • the fact that they (mostly) all lived together (in 1930) - - - so interesting!

Thanks, you! if you find more, I will gratefully take it.
