Hi,

It would be helpful if you could share approximately when Jane was born and where and when she died. I found a marriage record for a James Ford in Manister, Limerick. It could be her father??

Are you sure she was from Limerick. There is a Annaghdown in Galway and a Nenagh in Tipperary?

Hi Mary

thanks for your message. Just gone back and had a closer look at her marriage certificate and her death certificate.  her death certificate lists her maiden name as Ford but her marriage  certificate of 1850 spells her name as Forde  So I am nor presuming that the Forde spelling is the correct one. Jane died in 1906 at Tallarook in Victoria Australia aged 82. Therefore she was born about 1824. She had lived for 59 years in Victoria which means she arrived in Australia in about 1847. Her death certificate says that she was born in County Galway.  Annaghdown  was mentioned by some one else who had researched the family but I can’t find the source. There was also a suggestion that she came from Neneagh. But as some pointed out Neneagh is not in Galway   My understanding of Irish geography needs some improvement. The only other information I have is that her parents were James and Mary and that James was listed as a farmer on her death certificate.

Hi Mary   Thanks for the information. I notice that the two options are identical except for the birth date. Is that right. Are the two events linked

Ballinakill looks like it would have been a very rugged place in the 1840s.

Jim,

I am not sure why there are two birthdates, perhaps an error in registering. The baptisms are the same. Woodford is in the parish of Ballynakill. The records are for the same person. I did not find another Jane born in Galway at that time with parents James and Mary. There might be another Jane born at that time, but not all churches were maintaining records and civil records did not start until 1864.

Hi Mary. I looked up ballinakill on GoogleEarth and it took me to a location on the west coast of Galway. So I didn’t realise that Ballynakill was adjacent to Woodford. What you have said makes sense now. Will follow up the links you’ve provided. Thanks again for all your sleuthing
