Finding the Callaghan land in Mountblakeney, Limerick (mid 1700-1844)

Limerick

Hello,

My third great grandfather John Callaghan was born and raised his family in Mountblakeney until eviction in 1844. I am trying to determine the exact plot of land where "the Callaghans had resided for 100 years" before the eviction. The man who received the land after John was named John Hickey and Griffith's Valuation shows he had been on Section 10 before going to America in 1847. But the map for Mountblakeney in Griffith's only shows section 1 through 8, while the Tenure books cite sections up to 16. Any ideas how I can find where section 10 was?

Thanks.

The default colour maps on the Griffith's section of AskAboutIreland website date from later, so often do not match the printed Primary Valuation with regard to plot numbers. To check if earlier maps are available look for the 'Map Version' drop down to the top right of the map screen, if earlier maps are available the will be listed here.

The earlier maps are black & white and it's more difficult to follow townland borders etc. See screen-shot of the drop-down, and the plots 10A and 10B at the southern end of the townland. These maps often show changes with initial printed references crossed out due to occupier and/or owner alterations.

Plot 10A would later (i.e.. on the Colour maps) have been within plot 6 and 10B part of Plot 7

Map Version drop-down

Plot number 10A and 10B - crossed out on map version 2

For ref. on this map sheet - Map 1 is the colour later map (poss. 1870s), Map 2 is older, likely. same timeframe or a little later than the Primary Valuation so c1851, Map 3 is later as it shows the railway. Maps 4,5 & 6 are early but show no plot references.
