Exploring Family - Limerick

Limerick

I have long wanted to know more about my paternal grandfather’s family - and there always seemed to be some secrecy. He died before I was born. Yet I’ve been able - with some cousins - to trace his family back to Limerick. Thomas Conway was baptized at St. Mary’s in Limerick City, Limerick on 12/25/1809. Michael and Margt Philon were his parents and that is where things seem to stop.

Thomas married Ann Tracy in 1831 and had two children - and it appears one may have died quite young a Joseph Conway (1838 in Ireland) and John Conway (1849 - Liverpool, Lanchashire, England.)

I would love to explore more…and especially when I am sojourning in May in Ireland. Beyond Ancestry.com - what else can I do to find out more info, and potentially learn of any distant family still in Ireland?!

The paid site, Roots Ireland, shows that Thomas had a brother named Michael, born 13 Oct 1811, St. Mary's, Limerick. The mother's surname in both records is spelled Phealon.

In the tithe applotment books, there were three heads of household in Limerick named Michael Conway.

In the 1796 Flax Growers List, there was one Conway listed for Limerick:
