Attached Tithe records for "Staunton" parish of Kilbeheny. The years are not shown, but the records are from 1823 to 1837 usually.

It's easier to work your way back in the records, from UK to Ireland, than to try to bridge a gap like this.  DNA results are of course helpful, but one needs to do the paperwork too. Not sure if you have traced your UK family back through the censuses, civil and church records, and so on, but if not, I encourage you to do so.  Finally, where did you find the name Patrick Stanton?  I hope this helps.

There has always been a 'legend' in the family of a 'spanish lady', but my DNA results do not support a familial link with Spain. When Hazel found the record of Patrick and Honora's marriage in 1834 on the Catholic Parish Records, with Honora sounding slightly 'spanish', and my DNA showing 14% for Limerick it seemed a distinct possibility for a link. My Uncle's middle name was Patrick, but that is obviously a tenuous connection.

Hazel has traced back from my relatives in London and latterly Dagenham (Essex) where I was born.

Patrick and Honora Stanton are on the 1841 census in Deptford and the 1851 census in Lambeth. Both show their place of birth as Limerick.

The Catholic Record for Deptford shows that William John Stanton was born 22 Aug 1843 to Patrick Stanton and Honora (Fitzgerald). William was a lighterman and his date of birth and baptism is in the Lighterman and Waterman records at the Guildhall Library in London.

William John Stanton and Sarah Ross are Henry Thomas Stanton's parents and Henry Thomas Stanton is my Grandfather.

The unanswered questions are, "are the Patrick and Honora in Kilbehenny the same as those in Deptford and Lambeth? Did they get to London via a period in Liverpool?".

About the "Spanish lady," this term was sometimes used for the Spanish flu of c1918. Also, some Irish claim they are descended from survivors of the wreck of the Spanish armada off the coast of Ireland in 1588.

Every day is a school day! I did not know that.

'Spanish Lady' was my terminology, we are not aware that any of our family were struck down by the Spanish Flu pandemic. The legend was that someone on my father's side of the family had married a lady who was from Spain. My DNA profile rules that out.

We have just got a copy of William Stanton's birth certificate where the date of birth tallies with the Lighterman and Waterman and the  Catholic Record for Deptford records (22nd August 1834) with Patrick Stanton (Labourer) being his father and 'Nora' (nee Fitzcharles?) being the mother. I can understand Nora as a diminutive of Honora, but Fitzcharles? We think this is just a transcription error by the registrar.

What would you surmise?
