Marriage Details For John Dunforth and Catherine Roche

Athea (Limerick)

I am just getting started with researching my Irish ancestors. I was able to find the baptismal record for my 2nd great grandfather, James Dunforth on rootsireland.ie which names his parents as John Dunforth and Catherine Roche. He was baptized in Athea, County Limerick on 14 May 1855. All six of his siblings were also baptized there from 1844 to 1863 (Helen, Patrick, Mary, Johanna, Michael and Maurice). I am unable to find a marriage record for John and Catherine. Is there somewhere else I should look? I realize it may not exist. I am trying to go back another generation and identify the parents of John and/or Catherine. They immigrated to the US in 1864 or 1865 and settled in Greene County, Illinois. They changed the spelling of their surname to Dunsworth. Any assistance you can provide is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.

I also could not locate the marriage record for John and Catherine. Likely, the marriage occurred in Catherine's parish and that church no longer has records back to 1843.

Thank you for looking. Any suggestions as to where to take my research next?

Hello,

Griffith's Valuation records (1852) show the following Roche individuals...

Maurice Roche, Athea Lower, Rathronan, Limerick

John Roche, Athea Upper, Rathronan, Limerick

Mary Roche, Athea Upper, Rathronan, Limerick

John and Mary are both tenants of Wyndham Goold

It is unknown how these individuals are related to Catherine Roche though.

With this information, it would seem that Catherine Roche was from the RC parish of Athea, and their marriage records began in 1827, so it is curious why there is no marriage record found.

Carolyn

Hello,

I looked on Ancestry, and the Catholic Parish Register for four of his children give his name as John Dunford. Additionally, there is a Griffith's record for John Dunford in Templeathea East - I believe that is the town land mentioned on Roots for one of his children. I'm not sure if this name will bring any results.

Regards,

Carolyn

Thank you Carolyn for your input. I will continue to dig into these records. I was going to look at Griffins next so thank you for doing that. This is all so new to me but I'm learning.
