LimerickAbbeyfeale (Limerick)

My husbands 3rd great grandfather Henry Charles "Bartholomew" Hartnett was born abt 1802 in County Cork. Thru Y-dna testing with FTDNA and the Harnett/Hartnett DNA Project, we have discovered that our Hartnett family descends from the Hartnett/Harnetts of Abbeyfeale. We also know, thanks to DNA, that we are related to the grandmother and uncle (both Hartnetts) of Finbar O'Mahony who administers the Hartnett/Harnett DNA Project and some FitzGibbon descendents.

In researching Abbeyfeale, I saw the 2012 Hartnett/Harnett reunion photos/info and would like to connect with whomever organized the reunion. Would also like to connect with any Hartnetts that are into genealogy and family research and/or have done DNA testing. My husband has tested with 23andMe, Ancestry.com and FTDNA. If you are on GEDMatch, would like to share kit #. I've been working on the Hartnett family genealogy for about 16 yrs and would like to share our information and photos with family in Ireland. We are trying to discover our Irish family. I have a Hartnett family tree on Ancestry.com.

Our family: Bartholomew Hartnett, his wife Elizabeth Meuse/Mewse and daughter Helen left Ireland about 1832 for Canada. His son Charles Henry Hartnett was baptized in Notre-Dame parrish, Montreal, Quebec, Canada in April 1833. There were a few other Hartnetts in the Montreal area that might be family:

1) Timothy Hartnett b 1824 Ireland/d 1891 Montreal, married Margaret Byrne b 1830 Ireland/d 1869 Montreal; children Denis bapt 1854/d 1855 Notre-Dame parrish, Montreal, Mary Ann bapt 1852 Notre-Dame parrish, Joseph Timothy bapt 1858 Notre-Dame parrish and James Stephen bapt 1859 Notre-Dame parrish.

2) John Hartnett b 1789 County Cork Ireland/d 1834 St Luc parrish,Gross Ile, Quebec, Canada.

3) William Hartnett b 1819 Ireland married Catherine Lynch b1829 Ireland; children Margaret b 1853 Ireland, William b 1860/d 1860 Quebec City, Quebec, Canada and Catherine Loretta b 1865 Montreal/d 1926 Detroit, Michigan. Catherine married Charles W Kochler/Koehler.

4) Patrick Hartnett married Mary Wallis; son David d 1843 Notre-Dame parrish, Montreal, Quebec, Canada

From Montreal, Bartholomew's family moved to Greenwich, Washington county, New York. They were living in Greenwich in 1835 when daughter Eliza was born. In 1840 Bartholomew was living next door to William Lambert a cabinet maker b 1805 Ireland whose wife Hannah/Anna b 1815 Ireland is believed to be a Hartnett. Other Hartnett's living nearby in Troy, Rensselaer county, New York are

1) William Hartnett b 1799 Ireland/d 1871 Troy, NY, married Margaret Unknown b 1808 Ireland

2) Timothy Hartnett b 1800 Ireland married Catherine Laneb 1805 Ireland/d abt 1900 Troy, NY

3) Daniel Hartnett b 1812 Ireland/d 1890 Troy, NY, married Joanna Katy b 1806 Ireland/d 1888 Troy, NY

These Hartnetts are also believed to be family. Many of their descends still live in the Troy, NY area.Around 1854 Bartholomew moved his family from Greenwich to Grant county, Wisconsin. There were other Hartnett families living in Wisconsin at the time but I haven't research them yet. Bartholomew's 2 living sons Charles Henry and Joseph Bartholomew carried on the family name. Charles moved to Kansas about 1857 and my husband's branch of the family descends from him. Joseph remained in Wisconsin and established the Wisconsin branch of the family. Bartholomew had two daughters who married and remained in Greenwich, NY and three daughters that moved to Wisconsin. There is more information about Bartholomew's children in the message I posted to the County Cork message board several years ago.

There is a strong family resemblance that goes through the male line of our Hartnett family. The shape of the face, strong brow and chin, and twinkling eyes come through, whether young or old. It is photos of Hartnett sons that makes me believe that the Troy, NY Hartnetts are family.

Looking forward to hearing from anyone who thinks they might be family.
