Connolly's in Glenade parish

LeitrimRossinver (Leitrim)

I am doing a family tree and I am trying to track down possible family connections in your area.

My father was William Connolly (Drinaghan), son of Joseph Connolly (Aghamore) and Mary McGloin (Doostroke).   I know this because I found a scribbled scrap of paper in beside some of his old photographs.  With guesswork I think the photographs may have been taken in the thirties around Aghamore and/or Doostroke.

The parents of Joseph Connolly were Michael Connolly and Bridget McNulty both of Aghamore.  Mary McGloin's parents were Michael McGloin and Cecilia Rooney both of Doostroke.

Can anyone help me expand this line a bit further?

Thanks,

Gerard Connolly

Gerard: Suugest you go to the 1901/1911 census site maintained by the National Archives www.nationalarchives.ie There were McGloins in Doostroke in 1901. There is also a Connolly family in Aghamore. Note: threre are a number of Aghamore townlands in Co. Leitrim. You want the Aghamore in Aghanlish DED. Roger McDonnell

Thanks Roger, I have looked at those censuses and it tells me the bits that I already know about the Connollys and the McGloins at the time.  I am trying to expand on this knowledge by finding more family connections.  In this way I would hope to get closer to the background of these people.  Who came before Michael Connolly and Bridget McNulty for example; childrens names etc?  Wishful thinking probably, but I thought I would ask.

Roger,  The LDS site does not hold the information I want.  The 1858 Griffiths certainly shows information on the names I am looking for so I will try and do a bit of detecting from there.

Is the parish of Glenade still in existance and are the records available?

Thanks, that may be very useful.  I have emailed the PP with my query, so I will now see what happens next.

The PP replied very quickly saying I should try connecting glenade@kilmorediocese.ie.  I did this, but they have ignored me to date.  Looks like another dead end (excuse the pun).

My father was Hubert McNulty of Carraduff Farm Glenade Leitrim, he was one of 9 brothers and 4 sisters.  I am unsure if they were belonging to your family.

As you can see from the above attachment my great grandfather married a Bridget McNulty, so perhaps, there is a link there.  Maybe you can fill in some more details.

Townlands & People Glenade Ballintrillick Tawley is a community heritage group. We are mapping the homes in 40 townlands from the 1901 census to the plots, ruins and house there today. It has been a lovely community project where neighbours have gathered to talk about and record the people who have gone before us. We have a little research started on Leclasser, Aghamore and Doostroke which may help you.

Michael Connolly and Bridget McNulty Aghamore?

House no 8, 1901 Census, Aghamore, Aghanlish, Co Leitrim

Head of House is Bridget Connolly, age 60, Widow. The house is the last house (north side of the road) in Aghamore before crossing in to the townland of Doostroke. The same plot (1a) in Griffith Valuation is held by Michael Connolly in 1857. I think this maybe your family. All that remains of the house is one wall.

The Townland of Doostroke has 4 McGloin families. I will pass your information on to the person researching it within the group. Good luck.

This all sounds great.  I have never been able to get information from this area, so I am now excited about this project.

Is there any more info I can give you?  Are some photographs from (I think) 1920's 1930's of any value to your research?

I look forward to any information you come up with.

gcon60

Has any progress been made on the Connolly or McGloin families?

gcon60

No additional information yet but I will get back to you in the next week or two. Thank you for the offer of photos etc. We will add your information to our folders.

I can only assume that there is no information on the Connollys in Lecklasser.  Thanks for your help.

I passed the information on with no luck todate. I uploaded the 3 sets of photographs (without addrtional information) to our Facebook page to see if we get a response from the wider community. I will add a link to this page in a few days to keep it current. Hope it helps.

Because my family were from the Lecklasser, Doostroke and Aghamore area I am assuming that it is somewhere near there.  My Dad could have been visiting in the 1920's or 30's, but that is a guess.  The old lady on the spinning wheel could be Annie Connolly, my father's aunt.  I meet her in the late 40's.

Let's hope some of the older locals recognize something or someone.

Thanks for your help.

There is a post on 'Diocese of Kilmore | Counties of Sligo, Leitrim'.(3rd post down) In the messages attached to the article you will find information from Tony. I hope it is sucessful for both of you.

I have now found that my father, William Connolly, was born in a place called Drinahan in Sligo and that his father was a shop keeper living in Drinahan in 1898.

Is there any way to find out more using this new information?

UPDATE &TH NOV 2018:
