O'Rourke (Rorke/Roarke), b. c.1842 Co. Leitrim - emigrated c.1861, coal miner in Maryland

Leitrim

Trying to pin the exact Leitrim parish of Patrick F. O'Rourke (b. c.1842 Leitrim; coal miner at Midland, Allegany Co., MD; d. 13 Sept 1896). Wife Mary Ann Cavanaugh (b. c.1841, emigrated 1869). Father possibly Hugh; eldest son named John.

Strongest lead: a Hugh Roarke × Ellen Grey of Streamstown, Cloone parish (son Patrick bp. 1844) — unconfirmed.

Can anyone place this family (south vs north Leitrim)? Happy to share US census/cemetery/obituary records.

Thank you!

Elaine

I checked Ancestry.com and the grave memorial has Patrick born In Co. Wexford.  You have Co. Leitrim. Parents listed were Hugh O'Rourke and Elizabeth Whelan.

There is a March 27th 1840 baptismal record for a Patrick O'Rourke with parents Hugh O'Rourke and Elizabeth Whelan in the RC parish of Kilanerin. This record was found on the subscription site Roots Ireland.

Can you clarify the county?

Hi Elaine,

There was a Michael Rourke baptised in October 1840 in Cloone, Leitrim to Hugh Rourke and Ellen Gray https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XMYW-M8KV?lang=en

I haven't found Patrick yet but will look for other children as well, although the parish register for those years is a little hard to read. There was a Gray family living in Streamstown, Drumharkin Glebe and their parish was Cloone.

Teresa
