Diffley & Reynolds Families - Cloonclaire

Cloonclare (Leitrim)

I am searching for family connection to Diffley & Reynolds Families currently located in this area.

My 5GG Johannis Diffley (1780-1854) married 1818 to Margaret Reynolds (1785-1865)

They had 7 children: Sons: James (1818-1907), John Jr. 1820-1903), Patrick (1828-1906) all remained in Ireland

Daughters: Honora (1815-1886); Bridget (1828-1893), Anna (1832-1886), Frances (1830-1905) emigrated to USA/Canada

Over the years these family married together:

John Diffley & Margaret Reynolds

John Reynolds & Bridget Diffley

Anne Reynolds & Francis Diffley

I am very interested in making connections from within each family. Recently I had an inquiry from Delaware - John Diffley 1947-2022 who is Johannis Diffley's GG grandson! and in my research learned that John & brother Andrew lived in the same area that I did in 1967-1972 near Wilmington, Delaware. It certainly is a small world.

My original connect to Johannis Diffley is thru his daugher, Frances who emigrated around 1852-53 to Ontario Canada with the support of her sister Honora & married Patrick Regan.

I look forward to any information that could be provided. Cheers from Toronto, Linda

The townland was Clooncarreen in Mohill civil parish. Below are extracts from the 1901 census. There were only nine Diffley households in Leitrim in the 1901 census and all were in Mohill civil parish.

Hi Lindylou and Roger, I was recently checking marriages for Murray in Leitrim, and came across a marriage of a Bridget Murray to a Peter Diffley on 9th February 1835. Gortlettragh near Mohill. My great grandmother is a Murray for south Leitrim near Bornacoola. It is an interesting name in the area as the family of the writer James Joyce's mother came from the area, his wife was born in Dublin but her parents were Murray from Tulcon in Leitrim.

Here is a site of townlands in Ireland and there is a townland in North Leitrim near Manorhamilton called Cloonclair  and in South Leitrim called Clooncahir I find them confusing so careful in your checking of townlands.

Thank you for this link.  There maybe a close family tree connected to Peter Diffley.  I’m in connection with Tom Coughlan to see if this can be confirmed.
