Pringle family

Mountmellick (Laois)

My 3x great-grandfather William Pringle was born 24 Feb 1875 in Mountmellick. He married Jane Gribbins 4 Feb 1809 in the Diocese of Kildare (Mountmellick). She was from County Offlay. The birth and death dates for William along with the place of birth were recorded on his tombstone. His wife Jane died 3 Apr 1818 in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada. The burial record for Jane is in the church records at Charlottetown.

On a trip to Ireland in 2024, I found the marriage record in the Church of Ireland Library in Dublin for County Laois. I also found the baptismal records for my 2x great-grandfather and his younger sister Martha in the same site.

When William applied for land grant in Upper Canada (Ontario) in 1820, the land petition give the place and date of death of his wife and the fact that he had 3 children. It also states that he came from Mountmellick and has been in Upper Canada (Ontario) since Sept 1819. Attached to his petition was a letter of recommendation from Frances Hewson of Simcoe County, Upper Canada that stated ""I certify that I knew bearer Wm. Pringle late of the Queen's County Ireland, and that he was a loyal and respectable man preferred of a good [prosperity] in that County he was thoroughly commended by Sir Allen Johnson to the Lieut. Governor of Prince Edward Island. "

A biography of his son George (my 2x great-grandfather) was published in History of Toronto and County of York, vol. II, Toronto, 1885. It confirms all of the above information.

I am looking for people who might be related. He was born in 1785. Using traditional naming patterns, I assume that his father was named George and his mother was named Martha. A George Pringle was buried 12 March 1801 in Mountmellick and a Martha was buried 13 March 1806 in Mountmellick. These burials appear in the records at the Anglican Church Library in Dublin. I would like to find further supporting evidence that George and Martha were his parents. I have also found a William Pringle who is the father of George. This William Pringle also had a daughter named Sarah and a son named Robert.

Looking at additional records at the Anglican Church Archives, the Virtual Library and Familysearch, org, I have made connections for a Sarah Pringle who married Lawrence Geoghegans and Robert Pringle who married Catherine Bland.

Thanks for asking.

I do. The information they have added is from my tree. I know because the name Mary Blair is in the Wiki tree. I added the surname Blair after looking at other families living in the area and connections. I am still not completely sure that Mary's surname is correct. I have searched the Anglican Church archives in Toronto and other sources but have not been able to confirm that name. Someone else searching this family has a different name, also with no confirmed sources. The death date in the Wiki tree for Jane is incorrect. In the land petition of William made in 1820 it states that she died in April 1818. The record he has used is a transcription error showing on a card stating "Record from Charlotte Parish St Pauls record". This incorrect information was in Prince Edward Island, Canada, Death Card Index, 1810-1913 for Jane Gribbin Pringle. He does not have any reference to the land petition in his tree.

The second one is Susan Banting, a relative. Her niece, who was adopted, had asked me for help in searching her birth family. Fortunately she was able to find the information.

The Find a Grave record you mentioned was one that I added.

I am hoping to go back further in William's tree and Jane Gribbins. I have researched this family up to the present. I have taken numerous courses both on Irish and Canadian records.

Thanks for your help,

Patricia

Patricia,

I wish you well, but I don't believe I can assist you beyond what you discovered.

I agree. What I am hoping is that someone distantly connected will message me.

Thank you,

Patricia
