William Kelly’s Birth and Death

Laois

Hi,

I am looking for some help with my research into my Great-Great Grandfather, William Kelly. He married Ann Guidera and they lived in Laois. William’s father was listed as Thomas Kelly (dead)

on his marriage certificate so I’d like to find his death certificate.

I want to find William’s birth record and death records also.

Thank you!

Here's a Thomas Kelly who died in Mounrath in 1888. Could be William's father, but it's not proved.

Hi,

Thank you for all of the help!

Just wondering if it is possible William's father could have been recorded wrong? I have a baptismal record for a William Kelly in Laois around 1862, with parents Mary Hurley and the father as William Kelly. I wonder if this could have been written down wrong but be the right record? I found the record on FindMyPast and Ancestry.

The marriage record shows Thomas (deceased in 1893)  and Patricia found an 1888 death record for a Thomas Kelly in Mountrath. So I think a mistake is unlikely.

Hi Roger,

Thank you for your reply — that’s really helpful to know.

I came across a baptismal record for a William Kelly, which lists his father as William Kelly and his mother as Mary Hurley. However, I’m wondering if this might be an error, and whether his father was actually Thomas Kelly, with William being a written or transcription error. I ask because there’s a record of a Thomas Kelly marrying a Mary Hurly in Mountrath around the right time, which seems like it could be a match.

Luke:

Here is the baptismal entry for William Kelly on February 16 1862. Clearly shows William for the father. Did the priest get mixed up and write down the incorrect name for the father? Hard to tell. This baptism occurred in the Portarlington RC parish which is in the northeast corner of Co. Laois while Mountrath RC parish is in the center of Co. Laois.

Hi Roger,

What made me think that and it is possible that it could be coincidence but in an earlier psot I put up, Mary found a marriage registration for me which was for a Thomas kelly Marrying a Mary Hurly in Mountrath. So then I kind of wonder if that is the correct one but mixed up as the date is a about right and as above there was no birth entry for William with parents Thomas and Mary. Thomas and Mary's marriage was dated around Feb 1859, I believe.

But yes, I think maybe it being Portarlington isn't as likely to be correct but I wonder if William was born elsewhere than if no record was found for him in Mountrath?
