Gibbs Family from Kilkenny (Michael Gibbs born 7/7/23 to Michael Gibbs snr and Catherine Hoyne)

KilkennySt Johns (Kilkenny)

I am curious to know more about my grandad's origins. He was baptised atSt John's in Kilkenny on 7/7/1923, born to Michael Gibbs and Catherine Hoyne. He joined the war as a diver and Iunderstand his parents and all of his siblings did end up living in England.I have been trying to piece bits together from his children (my mother and uncles) but their knowledge andmemories and fragmented and inconsistent and would just cause confusion on here. So, for now, I'll just stick with the bare facts but would be happy to try to answer any questions.

I am moving to Ireland this year with my family (myhusband, our two young children and my disabled mum) and i hope to continue my investigations then, along with my grandma's ancestry in Galway. In the meantime, it would be nice to have some leads to follow as I'd love to discover some relatives.

Best wishes

To start you off in your search back of the Gibbs and Hoyne families here's a link to the marriage of Michael & Catherine in Kilkenny on the 30th June 1921 at St. John's Catholic Kilkenny city. Catherine is shown as a servant her residence Dean St., Michael is a labourer with residence Wolfe Tone St., their fathers are William Gibbs a labourer and Edward Hoyne a waiter.

Witnesses to the marriage are Richard Cormack & Julia Cormack.

There are some good matches for Michael and Catherine on the 1911 census with their families - Hoyne household, Goosehill Kilkenny and Gibbs household Hospital Road, Kilkenny.
