Burnchurch Graveyard, Ballbur, County Kilkenny

Kilkenny

Hello All,

I've traced my family to Ballybur, County Kilkenny and learned that the Burnchurch graveyard is likely the final resting place of my GGG grandparents . A photo published on Find A Grave has some of my family names, but without the benefit of census data, I can't quite sort who belongs to whom. I'm wondering if there are additional headstones there that could help me. Is it appropriate to ask here if anyone might be in the vicinity of Ballybur and familiar with this graveyard who could check it out? I hope to visit Ireland to make that journey myself but am still piecing details together from my home in the US.

The names I'm looking for are James O'Brien, his wife Anastasia Dalton O'Brien, and possibly their children, Margaret, Ellen, Mary, and Judith. The headstone photo on Find A Grave shows O'Brien and Dalton names but not as a family group that fits the information I already have.

With many thanks,

Lori

Lori,

Brian gravesites are listed on this link. Not sure if they are the same as the ones you found on FindAGrave. One gravestone includes James O'Brien d 1873 and his wife Ellen Dalton d 1882. Per RootsIreland (paid subscription), they had 12 children and lived in Viper. James and Anastatia also had a son Thomas born in 1828.

Not sure if this blog is still active. The author seems to live in the area.

Lori,

I wonder if this organization can provide contact info for IGRS vice-chairman Mary Casteleyn and Bernie Kirwan of Danesfort. They were identified on the blog I mentioned above. Per the internet they were both active in 2024.
