Bowe Family - Thomastown, Kilkenny

Hello!

My Great Great Father first appeared in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada in 1874. We cannot find any travel records or Birth/Baptism records. His Marriage certificate in Halifax states that his Parents were Micheal Bowe and Margaret Dolan. We found in some personal records that he was born in Thomastown, Kilkenny. I cannot verify this or trace our lineage back any further. I would love any insight anyone might be able to provide.

I am visiting Ireland in January 2026. I will be visiting Thomastown, would love to have some insight on where to look and who to contact prior to my visit.

Can you provide additional info-your great great grandfather's name, approximate age, spouse's name (when married)? I did check Michael Bowe and Margaret Dolan marriage and children on RootsIreland (paid subscription) without results.

James Michael Thomas Bowe - Born around 1839, in Thomastown, Kilkenny Ireland

Father - Michael Bowe

Mother - Margaret Dolan

Arrived in Halifax Nova Scotia sometime before 1874

He married Annie Macdonald in 1874 in Halifax, NS.

They had one son, Michael Thomas Bowe in 1876 in Halifax.

The info you posted above is the only info ive been able to dig up. So im hoping i can find some more concrete info about his birth place before traveling to Ireland in January or where I can look when i get there.
