BYRNE Family name and links to Shoemaking.

Castlecomer (Kilkenny)

I have a Byrne Family Tree with its roots in the Castlecomer area.

Our roots have Catholic, shoemaking and coalmining links.

My earliest confirmed data is for James Byrne born 1821  died1904 in Castlecomer.

He was married to Anne Farrell 1822 - died 1874 in Castlecmer.

This couple were the the parents of my grandfather Joseph Byrne born 1886 - died 1963 in

South Shields in NE England.The couple had a large family which I have data for.

Did James Byrne have any brothers/sisters?

Was his father John Byrne born 1773 - died 1865 in Castlecomer?

Was this John Byrne the shoemaker who received £7 compensation for damage to his house

and furniture following the 1798 Croppies revolt and march Dublin?

Thank you for any help you can give..

You may need to edit your message. You have Joseph Byrne born 1886 with parents James Byrne and Anne Farrell. You indicate Anne died 1874?

The subscription site Roots Ireland has baptismal records for seven children of James Byrne and Anne Farrell. They were baptized in the RC parish of Clough which is the parish north of Castlecomer parish. If you need the names, let me know.

The RC parish of Castlecomer has baptismal records for 1812-1818 but there is a gap from 1818-1828 which covers the period where James Byrne was baptized. Clough records start in 1832. I was not able to locate a marriage record.
