Looking for info for Michael Delmore - Parish of Naas born around 1821

KildareNaas (Kildare)

My ancestor, Michael Delmore, was born in the Parish of Naas around 1821 and emigrated to the UD in 1853,  He sent for and married Mary Dailey from the same parish.  I am looking for records, relatives, or a place to start.  I was lucky enough to visit Caragh in the 1980's but was unable to find any records.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thank you.

Michael:

I searched the subscription site Roots Ireland and did not find any Michael Delmore (and variants) Roman Catholic baptismal records in Co. Kildare. Also, there were no Delmore baptismal records in Naas RC parish.

So can you verify that Michael Delmore was Roman Catholic,

I assume you do not know his parents names? Do you know the names of any siblings?

Here is the parish register for Naas RC parish thru 1880.https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0720?locale=en

Michael,

This might assist other volunteers. From Ancestry- He was buried in Calvary Catholic Cemetery. His 4 oldest children based on a tree on Ancestry were Emma, Ellen, Patrick Henry, and Peter F. The tree suggests his parents were John Delmore and Anna Murphy??

Mary - This is my ancestor - Thank you and Roger for replying - I have a hand written genealogy researched by one of the Nuns in the family in the '60's that contains Michael's obituary and traces his descendants  in the US if anyone is interested.   I am very interested in finding out more about the Irish family.  I did not have the find a grave link and that is very helpful.  From visiting Naas in the 80's I found that there are variations on spelling - Delmer, Delmar if I remember correctly.  I have a copy of his immigration manifest from the ship he came over on through the port of New Orleans in 1850 and his name was spelled Michael Delmore (My namesake).  I am also interested in finding out more about his Bride, Mary Dailey - I understand he brought her over and they were married in 1853.  I also believe they sent for one or more of Mary's brothers although I don't know the details.  I also believe he was Catholic as several descendants families have Nuns and Priests among their children.

Thank everyone on this wonderful board for their help - greatly appreciated.

Michael

PS - I can see some of my Dad Patrick's features on Michael's picture on find a grave  - thanks again

Michael:

Many emigrants would say there were from the nearest big town rather than the actual townland where they lived. So possibly Michael said he was from Naas but in reality lived 10-15 miles from Naas. His local parish may not have records back to 1822.

I did find a Griffiths Valuation record for a John Delmer who lived in Leixlip civil parish (northeast Kildare). The townland was shown as Leixlip-Dublin Road. The Griffiths' record would have been from around 1850.

Hello Michael I am working on a lead on a link between my 3x great grandma Anna Delmore who was born around 1836 in Kildare and Michael Delmore from Naas and died in Minn. So here is the story, my grandma came from Ireland and settled in Oxford, OH, then moved on to Pana, IL with her daughtet family. Similar to Michael that ended up in Oxford. They were similar in age so I am assuming that they were siblings. Now here is the kicker, i inherited a ton of pictures from my Great grandma and grandma, one of those pictures in that collection is the same picture from the find a grave site. There is a lot of similarities and why would i have a picture of your Michael Delmore in my family photos if he was not related. My 3x Great Grandma married a guy named James Corcoran. Would love to connect and talk, swap info, try to solve this. I have more pics that are unidentified from the Oxford area that might be some of your relative. I also think there is a third brother that was living with them in 1860 I believe

Sorry for the delay in responding - I switched computers and had to figure out how to log in again.  From your description it looks like Anna and Michael may have been brother and sister - Michael was born in 1822 and emigrated to the US in 1850 through the port of New Orleans - he sent for his wife Mary Daly or Daley and her brother.  They ended up settling in Minnesota after going up through Illinois then west.  According to family lore Mary's brother founded the Chicago Daleys.  From my research, Michael's parents were John Delmore - born 1800 and Anna Murphy born 1802.  Anna's father was Peter Murphy born 1775.  I have a hand written geneology of Michael's decedents in the US compiled in the 60's by a Nun in the family. I would love to swap info with you - I will try get a bit more organized - Michael Delmore - fromthesea81@gmail,com
