FITZPATRICK - MONASTEREVAN - GURTEENOONA

Monasterevin (Kildare)

LETTER RETURN ADDRESS: Gurteenoona, Monasterevan, Co Kildare. Date Mar 1, 1932. Hello! In search of Fitzpatrick family decendants from the above area. My great-grandmother, Catharine Fitzpatrick (Kate) emmigrated to the USA in the 1880's. She died in the USA in her 40's. I have two letters written to my grandfather (Maurice Anderson) dated 1930 and 1932 from his Aunt Bridget Fitzpatrick of the above referenced section of County Kildare. In it she references the following names: Mick - who died in May @ 1924 around the same time as Aunt Nanny. She mentions that she recently saw Uncle Jack at Mass and he is the same as ever. She says her two boys are doing well. She tells about the Distillery and Brewery in Monasterevan being closed down for the past 10 years. She apologizes for not writing more often she lives "a piece out of town and I can't get in very often" -

THOSE ARE MY clues to my Irish family blood. I will be visiting Kildare in County Kildare the end of April 2025 hoping for a connection.

IF ANYONE has any clues, information or direction on finding family. I will be grateful.

Additional Information - my great-grandmother's name may be spelled Katharine Fitzpatrick (conflicting records) - DOB 1860 - DOD 1906. Emmigrated to Philadelphia USA in 1882. Married James Anderson in USA in 1892 Son Maurice Anderson DOB 1890's in Philadelphia, PA USA. It's possible she had another child but records are unclear.

I looked at some of the records for Catherine on Ancestry—censuses, death, etc. Her birth year ranged from 1855 to 1860. The 1900 census gave Feb. 1860 as her birthdate.

Next I looked at Monasterevin baptismal records on rootsireland.ie and found two Catherines born between 1855 and 1865, as below. One of them has the baptismal month of February.

Hello! I understand there is a meet and greet request here on the site but I can't locate it......also, should I be Parrish specific or County specific in my request. I have not been to Ireland before so I am, sorry to say, quite unfamiliar with what luck I may have with finding actual blood-line relatives or knowledge of their homestead locations. - Thank you again for any information. I appreciate it.

Kate:

Here is a link to the Meet and Greet form https://irelandxo.com/meet-and-greet

Show Kildare and the parish of Monasterevin. Then in the remarks mention the townland of Gorteenoona. Thanks! Roger McDonnell

Kate,

I found the Aunt Bridget Fitzpatrick's baptism records...she is the sibling to the Catherine Fitzpatrick (1858) that Patricia found above.

Bridget had a twin brother named Patrick. Here are their details:

Bridget & Patrick (22 May 1864) , parents - Anthony Fitzpatrick & Catherine Meenihan, Ballykelly, Monasterevin, Kildare. Bridget's sponsors were John Walshe & Anne Meenihan. Patrick's were Patrick McDermott & Eliza Murphy.

There is another daughter named Anne: 21 Apr 1861, Anthony Fitzpatrick & Catherine Menahen, Ballykelly, Monasterevin, Kildare, sponsors - Pat Murphy & Essy Quin.

Anthony Fitzpatrick & Catherine Minehan were married 22 Oct 1855, they were both from the town land of Inchacooly (Inchicooly), Monasterevin, Kildare. No parents names were given, but the witnesses were Pat Donaher & Julia Minehan.

All the records were found on the paid site Roots Ireland.

Looks like you might want to check out the town land of Ballykelly too!

Regards,

Carolyn
