Seeking information on the Meade family from Lack near Kilmihil

Hi - don't know if this is the correct family but I have attached some details from familysearch.org - the people I found getting married were John Meade and Maria Meere.  Hope this helps.

Hello Anne, you have brought another mystery to life with the Meade family.:-) I have wondered about the 2 birth records for awhile now. I found a son John born in Ennis and a record for a daughter Bridget. There were 11 children in all. where are their records?

Also I haven't found death records for Martin (B:1899), Michael (B:1882) or James (B:1893) and no marriage records for Bridget (B;1880). There is an infant death record I found somewhere. Martin was mentioned in an obit in chicago, Il in 1936. James was mentioned in an obit in 1961 also in Chicago.

I did learn today John Meade's mother's maiden name was Coughlan

I will check the Lack/Kilmihil/Kilrush areas for that Surname. Also the wife, Maria Meere's maiden name was Walsh. I looked up Walsh/Meere marriages in County Clare but came up empty. perhaps she was from a different county.

This family moved around a bit. In John Meade's life he lived in Lack, Kilmihil, Ennis, Crahera, Clare and Craggaknock. He is buried in Ballynacally with Maria.

Hi Beth - do you think that Maria was married twice?  Once as Meere and secondly as Meade - was the Patrick Jospeph Mead who died in USA of the same family.  I have found that when people died as infants - parents named children born later with the same name.  I will have another quick look and post if I can find anything.  Also, how would I access a prison record in America?  Is this possible?  Can't remember the year now but it was a long time ago.  Kind Regards, Anne

Have attached 1911 census - this shows a John and Maria Meade - who have been married for 35 years - 11 children born and 6 still living.  This is the original document - what beautiful handwriting.  Let me know if this is the correct family.  Also, Maria's age is 47 in the 1901 census - this would have made her approx 22 years at the date of marriage.  Do you not think this is a bit young for someone to be have been widowed?  Kind Regards, Anne

Hi Anne, yes, the Patrick Meade you found in the US is my maternal great grandfather. He married Catherine McNamara also of County Clare. The census records from 1901 and 1911 are the same family.  A cousin says Maria Meere's surname is Walsh. It seems unlikely she was widowed before age 21 but it can happen. Perhaps an accident or illness? There is nothing in the family stories to suggest she was previously married but we know so little of her.

I wonder if Bridget died young? I have her birth record in 1880, then she is gone by 1901. I have looked for marriage records but none fit. I've wondered whether she married and left the country? Went to a workhouse? prison? These seem unlikely but who knows?

Speaking of prison records, both Meade sons, Patrick and younger brother John were police officers in Chicago. Both have offspring that joined police or other government correctional agencies including the FBI. I do have the census, military and birth death marriage records for them in the US. The best way to search depends on the state the crime occurred in. In Illinois, court records and newspaper articles are quite good.

how does one determine who the people are listed at the bottom of the record and how they relate to the couple? What's the best way to order a copy of the record?

Did you see the 1911 census with your gg grandfather's handwriting?  I definitely think your cousin is getting muddled up with Maria Meere - Meere is definitely her surname.  She is probably remembering the person who travelled with Catherine to America who had the surname Walsh.  I looked for Bridget and could not find anything - no marriage and no death.  I remember looking for someone for ages and my older sister was adamant that the guy's name was David - it turned out to be John and she honestly could not believe that she had got the name wrong until I showed her the proof.  The film and image numbers on these records are there so that you can order them from the LDS Church - if you have a centre near you - they can order the micro fiche in for you - it is really inexpensive and you can get a photocopy of the record you need.  Or if you don't live near a Centre you can write to them and they will help you with any information that they might hold.  When ordering a Certificate from Ireland's registrars office if you quote the Volume Number, Page Number, year quarter and name of the person/people then it works out cheaper.  A marriage Certificate will give the names of the people being married, their age, occupation, place of marriage and their father's names - their mother's names are not recorded for some reason.  Witness names are recorded too.  I have an LDS Centre quite near to me - if you would like the address of that one - let me know - the people who operate this centre are really nice.  The prison record I was interested in was for a James Hanrahan - born 1878 - think it was New York - I will really need to look it up- again. I cannot find anything for this guy and I wondered if this could be him as the record is showing he was born in 1878 in Co. Clare.  There is a record of an Anne Meade getting married in Killadysart in 1928  - wonder if that would be your great great aunt.  Are there any other names mentioned - anything about Anne and what her married name could have been?  The only other way to find out this information would be to order the marriage certificate for Anne and it might not be the correct person but then again you could be lucky.  There is also a marriage record for a Michael Meade in 1929 same place - Killadysart. Just a correction: Maria Meere was my great-grandmother and it was her mother in turn (not Maria) whose surname was Walsh. I don't know what this last woman's Christian name was. All I know is that she was married to Meere and they lived in Ballylean some miles to the east of Kildysart village.

Martin Meade was the youngest of the Meades in Crahera. He died on May 6 1980 and is buried in Burrane.

Hi Pace, I was wondering. Did Bridget die about age 18? I thought I saw a death notice for about 1898. Would you like me to look up your relatives that came to America?

The weather has been summer like here. Mid 80 degrees farenheit or 27 Celsius Too hot for this time of year. How are the changing weather patterns affecting Ireland? Do you have a wine industry there?
