I have learned that Thomas Maxwell and his wife, Martha Raulston, may have left Ireland in 1849. That date is stated in a newspaper article about his son's death (Samuel Maxwell, b1841 d 1905) as being the date they left Ireland and came to the U.S. Given other information in his diary and letters, they probably landed in Boston.

I'm sorry I haven't sent you the information via Email that I promised. It seems I deleted my old Email and neglected to pull out the addresses I had from the archives. My grandfather wrote in his letters to my grandmother about Tom's children. In fact Matilda lived with him for a while. I would also love to read the newspaper article. I found their immigration record as well.
