Johanna Nagle - Tralee Baptism Record
Hello! When I applied to receive a copy of my grandmother’s birth certificate there was no record. So far I have the census records (1901 and 1911) and some birth and baptism records of family members. Apparently once I find her baptism record, I can register her birth.
I reached a barrier when I contacted St. John’s, the local Roman Catholic church in Tralee. I was hopeful when the friendly church archivist said they would get back to me in a few days. I followed up a month later and have recieved no response. I was concerned something might have happened so I followed-up but received no response. Supposedly St. John’s was the only Roman Catholic Church in Tralee during the time of her birth. I could be wrong. Who knows…maybe she was adopted into this large family.
Her birthdate was confirmed on her US immigration paperwork. Co Kerry to Boston in 1926 and on her death certificate. I was told some Irish immigrants changed their birth date but the 1911 census confirms she was 7 yrs old.
I think I’ve tried all free online resources and don’t know what else I can do due to my limited resources. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Details:
Johanna Nagle
DOB: 7/26/1904
Mother: Bridgette Finnegan
Father: Michael Nagle
Lived on Giles Lane Tralee (urban)
Immigrated to Boston from Co. Kerry on 4/12/1926 under name Hannah
Petition for Naturalization 4/10/40
There is another Johanna Maria Nagle showing up around this time but she has different parents.
My grandmother’s closest in age sibling, Elizabeth, passed away at birth in 1903.
I think the next step is finding someone local who might be willing to visit St. John’s and ask for her baptismal record. If there is no record of her baptism and no other Roman Catholic church near Tralee that was open in 1904, I guess I will have to give up.
Thank you so much!
Maria
Any help greatly appreciated. Thank you!
