I have his Thomas Birth  birth and marriege

Birth of each child born before Thomas also show fatehr Thadeus and Joanna Clifford[Kevene]

trish

Joan I have just looked at what the priest in Castlemine wrote to me years ago with that marriage

Feb 1842 Thomas O.Connor married Elizabeth Teahan  witt/ Maurice Teahan and Charles O.Connor. I see why you thought I had the wrong parents

They were married in Kiltallagh which I have been told does not exist today  but it was confirmed by Father Luke Roache that Thomas parents were Timothy and Joanna Kevane  he also said only child on their record was Catherine from my family  and that Thomas parents were Timothy and Joanna Kevane  I verified this from Churchrecords Irishgenealogy .ie when they went on line

On Griffiths Thomas is living in Gurraune.

I am desperate to find the Maurice [my great grand father born 1854] I have been on his trail for 15 years  MAurice and CAtherine two youngest went to NZ

Thomas had a brother John b 1st July 1830 Kellea  Thomas and John were both married in Ballyfinnane  to two girls both Teahans  I have never worked out which Teahans but one that would fit was from Bolteens

When I wrote to KIllentierna the priest there said there was 2 children born to Thomas O,'Connor at that time the other Tom O'Connor and Catherine Teahan had a daughter Ellen 2 /7/ 1843 so 3 years before my Mary was born 1846 Killentierna  I thought could it be same Thomas and wife died

AS I mention above Maurice and Catherine O'Connor both went to NZ

Well on cencsus for NZ in the same town was living Ellen O'Connor a school teacher . I know this is confusing and doing this for so long I am confused

If they had all stayed put it would have been easier

I know this is probably not going to be of any use but I am going to add my 2 cents worth.

I am related to O' Connors of and around the Gurrane area. It's slightly complicated.....

Jeremiah Connor married a Mary Horgan. They had several children head to New Zealand (Nelson in particular) as well as USA.

From family stories we know children of Mary Horgan's siblings also came to New Zealand....al least 3 lines from Michael (Marlborough), Timothy (Marlborough) and Batholomew (Canterbury). Both Batholomew and Timothy married Teahan's (Margaret and Mary) who were probably sisters. In New Zealand I have at least 2 or 3 examples where Horgan's married O'Connors who came from the same area in Ireland...so there is quite a link between the two.

I have just recently been looking at this part of my tree. I do have a few Maurice's, lots of Catherines but not so many Thomas' and no Charles. I will keep my eyes peeled for Maurice O'Connor in my search.

Many Thanks  Claire

My gg aunt Ellen Falvey married Patrick Brick after his first wife Mary Houran died! Small world. I have some info on some of the other Brick children, one having come to New Zealand and some to the USA.

Claire

Clare,

You are correct and how true, it is a small world. Some family history you may not have and like to add to your family tree.

Ellen Falvey's dob 8/8/1863, died on 10/2/1957.Her father being Michael and mother Mary Connor, have you any info. on her origin? Ellen got married to my g g grandfather Patrick on 25/5/1899.in Tralee. They had a family of 3 sons. ( 1) Maurice, dob 23/7/1900 died 12/5/1970. He married a Deborah (Abbie) Hogan nee O'Sullivan from Knockbrack origionally. They had two daughters  Ann and Mary Ellen. Ann now married and resides in Garraun. ( 2 ) Marcus dob1902 died 24/12/1976. He married a Lucy Fitzgerald from Carlaheen Tralee I think. She died on 5/11/1982. They had a family of 1boy Patrick (Patie) dob1931 died 1/8/2001, he is buried in New Rath cemetery Tralee.and 4 girls Bridie,Eileen- May, Ann and Doreen. ( 3 ) William (Bill) dob 1904 died suddenly at Breens Bridge Garraun on 29/10/1956.He was not married.

Mrs Ellen Brick/Falvey,along with her sons Maurice and William are buried in the same plot in Kiltallagh, cemetery.

The Falvey land and gable wall of the house adjoins my late mothers land. There is a natural spring well on it known as Falveys well which was used by all the neighbours up to the late 1900's I happen to have a photograph of Ellen or Ellie as my late father effectionatly refered to her.

I would greatly appreciate any info relating to my Brick relatives ( gran aunts/uncles ) who emigrated to N Z./ U S A  The only info I have from my father is that the following members possibly went to N Z ,Mary dob10/3/1866 emigrated abt.1883  died 1946 married a Mills who owned a Music store in Christchurch they had one son named William and possibly others. Daniel dob 17/1/1852 emigrated 1888 died 1947, Ellen dob1876 emigrated 1898 she married a Rowan, and John dob 2/6/1878

I also have a record of my g g aunts/uncles and also g aunts/uncles who emigrated to USA but cannot locate it at present.

I hope you will find this family history interesting , that is if you have not got some or all of it previously

I will email you with what I have.

Have a great day!!

Good Morning Claire,

Thanks for your reply. A correction to my last subscription--Deborah (Abbie) Hogan should have read Deborah (Abbie ) Horgan. Pl.excuse confusion.

Hi (and good evening from New Zealand!!)

I just tried to email you and it literally just bounced back. I will have to check if I wrote the address correctly.

Thanks for the reply....I had wondered if it was Horgan and there are several crosses with O'Connors and Horgan's in the family. My gg grandmother (and mother of Ellen Falvey Brick) was Mary Connor whose parents were Jeremiah Connor and Mary HORGAN. They might be related!!

Hi Claire,

My email address is tj.brick@hotmail.com.

I am in the process of building my family tree, which I am finding interisting but chalanging. From my late mother family,I am trying to trace the families of two gran-uncles who emigrated to N Z./ Australia ?  They were  a Maurice O'Connor  dob 3/2/1884, and his brother  Peter or Patrick dob 23/3/1886 both from Garraun  Ballyfinnane Co Kerry.

Let me begin with my  g g grandfather Dermot Jeremiah O'Connor dob 30/05/1841( known as Jerry Taedo) he married a Mary Brosnan from Dromore Farranfore. They had a family of 6, 4 boys and 2girls.

Maria/Delia dob 1/2/1874 married a Taed Lynch from Balltseedy near Tralee.                                       Timothy dob 7/11/1875, died 24/8/1933,married a Mary Kerrisk from Ardcanaught Castlemaine and owned a farm at Parkeragh, O Brennan.Tralee.                                                                                     Jeremiah ( known as Jeraco) dob 3/8/1879 died 17/4/1928, married a Annie Kerrisk from Ardcanaught (a sister of Mary"s) and farmed at Garraun,Ballyfinnane.                                                                            Julia dob 26/2/1888, married an Eddie Kerrisk from Gortalassa Firies.  Then two remaining Maurice and Peter or Patrick.

M B.

Hi Trish,

As I have got engrossed into several O'Connor families in New Zealand now, I thought I would have a look as well. It seems you have got quite a bit anyway but did you find that Catherine O'Connor, wife of James Talbot drowned in 1894??

Claire

Claire  No Catherine did not drown it was Talbot

They lived in NZ for a few years owned land and I lose them for years thought she had died

HIs family had settled in VIctoria so for some reason they then went to VIctoria

He was on his way back to NZ to sell his land there , the ship hit a reef and sunk He was drowned

I have rellies in NZ who have just been to the archives to verifiy this for me I do have contact with her family in NZ and her great grandparents were on same ship but survived  COme back to me if TAlbots mean anythin

Trish

Hi Trish,

My mistake, I read the article wrong!! I went back and had a look and realised I had not seen things as they were!!

Claire

I think we must have one family member that we connect to

When I said the Priest in Killentierna said he only had two Teahans married there that was incorrect  he said  I have only two BIRTHs here for Connor and Teahan

Ellen Baptised 22 July 1843  parents Tom Connor and Catherine Teahan

Mary Baptised 30 MArch 1846 Thomas Connor and Elizabeth Teahan mine

So is this correct that most Irish women went home to their parish to give birth

So the two Teahans most likely were from Killentierna but my Maurice that I still cannot find his birth would have been born between Charles Teahan Connor b1849 and before Catherine's birth 1859

But I am also a generation nearly 10 years before your familys I think

I am convinced that Thomas Connor and Elizabeth Teahan did live in Gurraun Co Kerry or Ballyfinnane   The time for my family was in the Famine so they had to move to where rellies were for help or work There was another Connor married around the same time who was from Ballyfinnane  a John Connor who also married a Teahan. Now Thomas had a brother John b1 July 1830

So two children in my family were born in Killentierna Mary Connor and Charles Teahan Connor but they all gave Ballyfinnane even  Thomas was born there and  sister Ellen 1820 father Thadeus family they state Ballyfinnane and KIlleentierna for two fo their children On Griffiths over the years there has always been a Brick who owned land so employed others

Trish

Hi MB,

Did you know that there are Brosnans still living in Dromore, Farranfore?

Regards,

Joan

Yes I only found that out in the last few weeks I had a new family member go to the archives so this is just new to me

At least I know where Catherine lived after NZ and a lot about the children

I would not have thought looking in Australia Thanks for your intrest in my family over the years Trish

Do you have any more information on the Mary Connor{O'Connor]in your family

MyConnors did came from the same place Gurraune  ??

Trish

Hi Trish, who are you asking about Mary Connor and which Mary Connor are you talking about.

My Friday night brain is not working!

Claire

Hi Trish, who are you asking about Mary Connor and which Mary Connor are you talking about.

My Friday night brain is not working!

Claire

Your Friday night  Then mine is worse

Trish

Joan , A lot of marriages on Churchrecords do not give the parents only the wittness , worse luck but with mine I have spent so many years getting the information

You state the parents were Maurice Teahan and Charles Connor

Charles Teahan Connor is Thomas younger brother  Baptism/s seem to name parents but most marriages just have the surname of each person then the Wittness  Thank you for your interest in my family

Trish Jensen

Hi

Going over your information again this morning I wonder do you have any more information on the Mary O'Connor, Ellen Falveys mother

Trish

Hi Trish,

For some reason I have not seen this comment before, but anyhow, Mary O'Connor was the daughter of Jeremiah Connor and Mary Horgan.  They seemed to live around the Droumduhig area and most of their children emigrated to New Zealand (or america).

I have been given the transcript of a letter than James O'Connor (son of Jeremiah and Mary) who moved to America around the 1850's and while it's hard to follow he mentions a lot of family and friends or people living in the area and moved to america. No clue as to where this James even ended up sadly (one of my missing O'Connors).

We know the Horgan;'s also had quite a lot of interweeving with the O'Connor family with several crossovers that I know about and again several Horgan lines came to New Zealand.

Claire

HI MB

Bridget b 31 Dec1816 ,Ellen above b Ballyfinnane, Thomas b 30 April 1822 Ballyfinnane,Mary b 3 July 1826 knuckbrack and John b1July 1830 Kellea

Now there could be more children I have not found

Maurice with sister Catherine went to NZ he married Mary Francis Courtney parents of Mary were John Courtney and Mary Bowler

Mary Francis was b 2 jan1858 in Caherciveen {I saw the birth at the church in Caherciveen] .

Catherine m James Richard Talbot in NZ ,They moved from NZ to VIctoria where his parents had settled with Blesshennets .Some years later he was retuning to sell his land when the ship went down and he drowned

I use to go to work on the Manly ferry and spoke to John Edward most days as he worked on the ferry

I hope this cleared up a few things for us both

Trish in Sydney

I have been reading the above posts with interest. I am researching the Fitzgeralds of Marlborough, NZ and they have a strong link with your O'Connors. I have seen a few mentions of the wife of Michael Falvey written as Mary (Bridget) O'Connor with her sister being a Mary as well (but no information attached to her name). The Fitzgeralds have a Mary O'Connor on their tree. She descends from Jeremiah O'Connor and Mary Horgan too. Mary married Charles Rourke and they lived for a time in Lisheenacannina, Molahiffe...Charles was a school master.  They had at least 3 children...Jeremiah, Mary Rose, and Elizabeth. Patrick O'Connor was a witness at Jeremiah's baptism in 1832. He also sponsored Elizabeth Rourke and her cousin Garrett Barry (whose mother was Ellen O'Connor) to emigrate to NZ in 1859 (on the Golconda) and Patrick and John O'Connor sponsored Mary and Elizabeth Rourke (presumed to be Elizabeth's older sister and maybe a cousin, but not 100% sure of their relationship). Elizabeth's future husband John Fitzgerald was also on the Golconda to NZ. Elizabeth and John married in Nelson in 1862 and farmed in the Omaka, Marlborough. Michael Falvey was a witness at Elizabeth and John Fitzgerald's daughter Mary's baptism in 1867. The following families are all tied up together with our Fitzgeralds...Leahy, Healy, O'Connor, Brosnahan, Barry, and Mahoney. Two of our Fitzgeralds - the John Fitz that married Elizabeth Rourke and either his uncle or his brother Denis Fitzgerald (not sure of their relationship yet) gave as their address when emigrating to NZ as c/- Francis Peet esq, Arabella. There are Fitzgeralds (John and Denis) living next door to the Arabella Estate at Gortagullane townland. We think these are the father and uncle of the John who married Elizabeth Rourke. Also living at Arabella are 1.Deborah Healy who emigrated to Marlborough with her sons John and Michael and a great niece (I think that's her relationship) Mary Mahoney; and 2.Catherine Leahy who I suspect is Bridget and Ann Leahy's mother (who married the O'Connor boys Patrick and John) is also living at Arabella. The three Leahy boys - Daniel, Patrick and John (Catherine Leahy's sons) assisted John Fitzgerald (of Gortagullane) to emigrate to NZ in 1857 by giving surety as well as paying for him afterwards. I am in touch with a descendant of the Healys who lives in Nelson and their research says that Deborah Healy who lived at Arabella was a Brosnahan. The John Fitzgerald that came to NZ in 1857 married Johanna Brosnahan so it is possible Johanna and Deborah were cousins as their fathers were John and Michael Brosnahan. Johanna Fitzgerald and Deborah Healy and Mary Mahoney were all grouped together in the passenger list for the Sir George Pollock in 1861. The widowed Deborah married a Thomas Shaw in NZ and their farm at Tua Marina was called Arabella! If any of these other families ... the Fitzgeralds, Rourkes and Brosnahans in particular, mean anything to you I would love to have you make contact: leoniefitzgerald@paradise.net.nz

Might I just say, the Fitzgeralds owe a HUGE debt to the O'Connors for their help and support all those years ago. I am trying to piece it all together for my husband's (Fitzgerald) family and any help would be appreciated.

Morning

If you would like me to pass along your email address let me know by contacting me at cdoyle@irelandxo.com along with your username and family name in question (so I don't get mixed up!)

Best wishes
