Richard O'Leary & Anne Dumas

Kerry

Looking for theburial sites of Richard O'Leary & Anne Dumas, both born circa 1800, married 1826 in the townland of Bouleenshere (Booleenshere) and had son Michael circa 1826/1831. Found marriage record of Richard & Anne & birth of Michael in Causeway Parish, John the Baptist Catholic Church. Michael migrated to Wales during or just after the famine (1846/49) but don't know if Richard & Anne did too. Have checked out a few cemeteries between Causeway & Ballyheigue with no results.

Hi Don, I haven't had any luck directly with your question but I have found another record  of Richard for you. It is a Civil Record, dated 1833, and note the name of the townland is given differently. There is always the possibility that it is a different family but Cornelius Leary of Boulteenshere Catholic records is also listed there

It may well be that Cornelius, Richard and Jeremiah are related so I would suggest that you follow Cornelius' family to see if they bring you any closer to the present day.

Cornelius is still alive c1853 so you may be able to find his childrens' marriages in the Civil Records.

I hope this helps a little though it does not answer your qustion directly. Many Irish people who died before 1900 have no headstones, it is certainly true of my family.

Good luck

Martine

Thanks Martine, I contacted a friend (Tony Kenny) in Killarney who belongs to this Richard & Cornelius, but we're still working on the possibility that we share Richard since Cornelius lived, or had a connection with Bouleenshere, even tho the difference in spelling. (Bolteenshere)  Will keep you posted. I'm trying to get Tony to do the DNA test to see if we may be related.

Martine, I would like to have your e-mail address. I sent a package of info last Saturday (03/19/2022) to Kay re my grt grt grands Richard O'Leary & Ann Dumas, also an e-mail explaining the contents & would like to fwd to the same e-mail to you in order for both of you to start off on the same page. The package of info will not get to Ireland for two weeks according to the local post office here in Indy. In addition to the e-mail to Kay I will add that you not only look for Richard & Ann of Bouleenshere, perhaps you should also explore the possibility that (my theory) Richard may be buried in or near Newtown (Killury, Ratoo, Causeway) with his 2nd wife Bridget Sullivan, who had five childen - Mary 1837 Newton or town, Causeway, Richard 1839, Newtown, William 1842, Newtown, Thomas 1844, Newtown & Patrick 1849 Bouleenshere, who could be grt grf Mike's half siblings. (Boolbensharn) Bouleenshere is a few miles north of Ballyheigue, where Ann Dumas's brother James & niece Ann are buried in the old Ballyheigue cemetery. (grt grt grm Ann Dumas's mother was Mary Cantillon) According to the records I have found my grt grf Michael O'Leary was born Dec.1826 in Bouleenshere to Richard & Ann with sponsors John & Honora O'Leary. Richard & Ann's marriage of Feb 1826 was witnessed by a John Leary & James Dumas, possibly the fathers? (records enclosed in Kay's package) The dates above do not correlate with later UK records & my home town 1900 census records (& family bible) that grt grf Michael was born Sept 13, 1831 in Kerry. (also in pkg) I also realize that my clan may have stretched the truth a bit moving from Kerry to Wales to America for employment and /or marriage. I appreciate your last message citing that Richard may have had brothers Jeremiah & Cornelius.(of Boolteenshare) I'm still trying to clear that up with Tony, who's grt grt grand uncle Richard O'Leary was married to a Madam Sullivan. (Bridget??) There are a few Cornelius forenames as fathers among the 96 Leary Baptisms in the Causeway Parish enclosed in the pkg  Please send your home address to me at dbjoleary@aol.com for any future personal mailings.
