Juliana Shea, Tralee

Kerry

Hello. My great, great grandmother was Juliana Shea or O’Shea. She was born around 1834 in Tralee. Juliana (Julia, Julie) married Michael Quinlan in April 1855 in Molahiff (Castleisland). She had at least seven children, including my great grandfather Eugene Joseph Quinlan. The children were born around Knockrour, Cork. Juliana’s husband is listed as farmer, however I have not been able to find any records for him.

Juliana migrated to Queensland, Australia in 1890 with two of her children (Johanna and Eugene). Sadly, she died in February 1891 in Warwick, Queensland, Australia. One of her other sons, Patrick, notified authorities of her death just 10 months after migrating.

i am visiting Ireland in June 2026 and am hoping to find information about Michael Quinlan, Juliana’s husband and my great, great grandfather. I have joined Ancestry.com however have had no luck re Michael. There is no record that he left Ireland.

Would there be any records that might point me towards his fate?

Any and all advice much appreciated!!!

I just came across this post , I don't know if you ever traced the death cert for Michael Quinlan so I decided to post it for you in case you did not have it.

Hello Eileen, my apologies for the delay in responding to your kind message. I had not logged in since my last message.

Thank you so much for sending through Michael Quinlan’s death certificate. Much appreciated.

And Roger, it was lovely to see your message to Eileen!

I land in Cork on 10 June 2026 for my 23 nights in the Emerald Isle 😁. So excited!

I have bought a big Lonely Planet map, and am marking it with the towns I know ancestors lived. Attached is a picture of the map showing some of the Munster towns that mob came from. I have similar pictures for the group clustered in Clare, Limerick and Kings County.

My DNA test tells me I am 96% Irish Celtic/Gaelic:

. 81% Munster

. 9% Connacht

. 6% Leinster.

Even though all my Irish ancestors came to Australia in the 1800s, they kept mostly to their own mob when marrying!

Anyway, I am doing my best to build a full and accurate family tree

I would love to meet with an Ireland XO volunteer when I am there, and I will certainly contribute to your great organisation. You are doing invaluable work!

Best regards

Michelle
