Nancy,

James was baptized on 10 May 1844...the residence was given as City, RC parish of Killeentierna. His parents were William Fitzgerald and Julia Connor. The sponsors were James Connor and Margaret Kerin.

There was a daughter named Julia baptized 25 Jan 1838 to the same parents (the mother was transcribed as Jane Connor)..the residence was City, and the sponsors were James Clifford and Johanna Connor.

BTW, I think that the residence of "city" is the town land of Curracitty. There is a James Connor as a tenant in the Griffith's Valuation record for Curracitty.

Regards,

Carolyn

Thank Carolyn,

Is there any where for me to find more info on Jane’s parents and sister Julia: marriage/death records, and whether there are relatives still living in the area, as I’m visiting in September. Thank you again.

Nancy,

I did not see any Fitzgeralds in the 1901 or 1911 census in Curracitty, nor could I find a marriage record for their daughter Julia. While there should be a marriage record for Julia/Jane Connor and William that might show her father's name, I could not locate one. On irishgenealogy.ie, there are two possible baptism records in the RC parish of Killeentierna that might be Julia's....one is on 24 Mar 1806 with parents James Connor and Julia Reardon, sponsors are James Brosnan and Julia Daly, the residence is not given. The other record is from 1807 that you can look up. Of the two, I think that the 1806 one is more promising because of the parents' names and one of the sponsors - Brosnan. There are many Brosnans in the 1901 census and two Brosnahans in the 1853 Griffith's Valuation. I think that the surname was shortened from Brosnahan to Brosnan over time. This is just pure speculation on my part though! Civil death records began in 1871, so you can search on that same site that I mentioned above. The registration district you enter in the field is Killarney.

Regards,

Carolyn

Thank you so much, I really appreciate your help.

Regards,

Nancy
