Griffin/Shea in Cahirsiveen, Co. Kerry

Kerry

I believe my 2nd great grandparents Patrick and Nora/Hanora (Shea) Griffin may have been from Cahirsiveen in County Kerry. They may have emigrated to Fitchburg, Massachusetts, in the 1880s.

I have information about them in Fitchburg—but no trace of them in Ireland. My grandmother always said this branch of the family was distantly related to Daniel O’Connor, who was from Cahirsiveen; in the 1950’s a Denis Shea of Cahirsiveen was said to be a cousin of some sort.

When Nora died (quite young) in Fitchburg in the 1890s, she was a widow.

Not very good clues…but any advice would be appreciated! I am trying to pinpoint when/how they came to the US, their family and work connections/history in Ireland, etc.

(Patrick and Nora’s children included Margaret (Griffin) Dougherty, who I believe may have been born in Ireland, her sister Catherine (Griffin) Fernald, and their brother John Griffin.)

There are lots of public member trees on Ancestry for your family. I cannot vouch for their accuracy, but one did have a link to Honora's MA death record, which says her mother's name was Julia Moran.

Thanks for all of this! I am really excited to dig into these. I was in Cahirsiveen last week; clearly visits to Gleensk and Glenbeigh are needed. Again, my deepest appreciation.
