Dennis O'Keefe born abt 1800 Looking for info about Siblings or Parents

I am searching for information about my 2x Great Grandfather Dennis O'Keefe born about 1800. I am not positive where Dennis was born I do know that he married Catherine Murphy born 1816 in either County Wicklow or Limerick. Catherine's parents are John Murphy born 1790 County Limerick and Ellen O'Keefe born 1795 County Kerry they all lived near Abbeyfeale and Daugh area's. Dennis and Catherine were married in London because parents didn't approve of the marriage (could have been cousins), they came back to County Kerry and had 7 children Ann 1836, Winnifred 1838, Luke 1841, Frank 1844, Ellen 1845, Dennis 1846, Mary 1849 and Cornelius 1850. The family then followed the Murphy Children to New York in the early 1850's and had 5 more children there. Both the Murphy Children and the O'Keefe then settled in Hudson Wisconsin in the 1860's.

Recently I have found many DNA matches in Australia all seem to be connected to the surname O'Keefe or O'Keeffe since I have two separate O'Keefe families it has been difficult to determine a connection. I have more info on Ellen O'Keefe born 1795 side of the family they are from County Limerick. Since I have not been able to connect any of the DNA matches to the Ellen O'Keefe side now I am thinking it could be Dennis O'Keefe. I can not find any leads on who his parents or siblings may be. The only hint I have is from Old family documents that say a Dennis O'Keefe born 1823 (Parents Cornelius O'Keefe and Catherine Connor)married to Catherine Walsh born 1830 both from County Kerry could be Cousins of my Dennis. These families both finally settled in the same town of Hudson Wisconsin in the 1860's.

I have Tree's posted on Ancestry, My Heritage and Family Tree DNA. I also have my DNA on Gedmatch kit number A637207

I know this is going to be a difficult task. I am looking for guidance and help with this search.

Thank you in advance for any help.

Looking at the UK marriage record, it seems that the marriage for the Dennis and Catherine took place in 1837. Yet you have your Denis and Catherine's daughter Ann born in Kerry a year before that.  Perhaps the couple who married in Ireland were not your ancestors?

I found this baptismal record on Ancestry. I can't say if it is your ancestors' child, as their names are common.  But it shows a daughter Ellen born in 1839; if this is your ancestors' child, she likely died in childhood as they named another daughter Ellen later on.

Patricia,

Well you are correct, The marriage record is not the correct one. I thought it was 1834 and it is not. It is 1837. Thank you.

The record you posted could be a child of my Dennis and Catherine because of the break in years between Winnifred 1838 to Luke 1841. I am not even positive that Winnifred is a child of Dennis and Catherine I found this name in another tree and thought I would add it to mine with questions marks in hopes it might provide a new lead, All of the other children are correct because they all lived and are backed with family Genealogy.

On a side note I love your name. My mother is Patricia Alice Sullivan a red head 100% Irish. I am a twin my brother is named after my Dad and I am named after my Mother. I am Patrick Allen

Any thoughts on how I might find the parents of Dennis?

Thanks so much for your help and fast response. I will correct my records.

Here is some relevant information about the O’Keefes. Note it calls Catherine by the name Walsh, not Murphy.

Cornelius O'Keefe

Cornelius O'Keefe was born in Hudson, Wis., March 21, 1858, a son of Dennis and Catherine (Walsh) O'Keefe, both of County Kerry, Ireland. They came to Philadelphia in 1849, remaining for one year, afterward locating at Belvedere, Broom county, Ill., where the father spent about nine years working on the railroad. Subsequently they came to Hudson, Wis., in the late '50s and bought a lot, upon which the father erected a house. Later they moved to Erin Prairie, Erin township, Wis., and bought 160 acres, breaking the land and making all improvements. They conducted general farming operations. The mother died in 1879 and the father is still living, being now over eighty-seven years of age, and still hale and hearty. He makes his home with Cornelius on the old homestead. In the family there were five children besides Cornelius. Katie, the oldest of the family died in Erin at the age of nine years. John died in Fargo, N. Dak., at twenty-two years of age. William is now in the far West. Daniel J. is a lawyer in the New York Life building at St. Paul, Minn. His education consisted of courses in the common schools, the State Normal school at River Falls, Wis., three years; Commercial College of St. Paul, one year, and the University of Minnesota four and one-half years. Another sister, Mary Ellen, was born in Erin and died at the age of twenty years. Cornelius received a good education in the public schools of Erin, then commenced farming with his father, an occupation which he his since continued to follow. In 1903 he purchased eighty acres of land from his father. At the present time he runs his own farm and also cares for his father's land. Upon these farms he does a general mixed farming.

Cornelius O'Keefe is not married. Both father and son have held several important offices. The father has served as director of School District No. 3, while Cornelius was deputy game warden during Cleveland's administration.

The subject of this sketch is a great reader of history, and few men are better informed than he on the course of the world's great events. He is a progressive farmer and a hard worker. He votes the Democratic ticket and worships at the Catholic church. ["History of the St. Croix Valley", Vol. II" by Augustus B. Easton; pub. 1909; transcribed by Cathy Danielson]

Good Morning and thanks for this info.

Yes this is the family that my first cousin Mary Ann Pattison (Kinney) wrote about in her research. In fact I have this article in in my book as well. Mary Ann states that Cornelius could be a brother to Dennis or a Cousin however she did not find any record to confirm. It is interesting that they both ended up in a small town in Wisconsin with the same Surname.
