Loughnanes In Listowel Area

Listowel (Kerry)

I am researching my fathers maternal line who were originally Loughnanes in the Listowel area.

I have researched back to the marriage of James Loughnane Duagh and Honora Stack Ballyleagh  on 21 February 1846 in Ballybunion. These are my direct ancestors. One of their sons was my great grandfather who was baptized in Duagh Church.

I am trying to connect them with another Loughnane family from the same area, Patrick Loughnane Listowel who married Catherine McCarthy Droumbeg on 7 February 1846 in Ballybunion Church. He is listed in Griffiths Valuations as living in Ballyduhig, Listowel.

From my research both Patrick Loughnane and his wife and James Loughnane and his wife lived in the same area and both families knew each other. Patricks son is listed as witness at the marriage of James daughter in 1877 in Duagh Church. James daughters children have Ballyduhig on their birth certs.

My theory is that Patrick Loughnane and James Loughnane were either siblings or cousins but I can not find a birth, baptism or marriage document to connect them.

I am planning a trip to the Listowel area in the next few months and I would love to connect with someone local who knows Listowel history and might possibly be able to help me figure out the connect between my direct ancestors and the other Loughnane family.

There is a tree on Ancestry that suggests this is Patrick's baptism record. Record from Irishgenealogy. The tree identifies the following siblings- Jeremiah 1813, Robert 1814, Daniel 1818, Thomas 1826. Patrick died in 1891. Perhaps James and Patrick were Cousins??

Thank you so much for this, Ive been going in circles, trying to figure all this out. I will have a look at these records and hopefully might be able to solve this mystery

If you are planning to go to Ireland, you might want to submit the Meet and Greet form on this website. A local volunteer might be able to help. I wonder if Michael and Robert on the 1851 census are Patrick's brothers or another relative??

Regards- Mary

DeeMoon,

I should mention on this message board they have a temporary problem with copying text and opening links. You might need to go directly to the free Irishgenealogy website to view some records.
