Looking for descendants of Jeremiah (Darby) Connor, b. 1785 in Kerry, possibly around Tralee, and d. 1865

Killemlagh (Kerry)

DNA finally gave my family a breakthrough in the search for the parents of Thomas J. Connor, b. 1865 in Wales, d. unknown. We have a strong match to Thomas J.'s grandfather, Jeremiah Connor (possibly called  Darby, possibly from Tralee), whose wife's maiden name was Driscoll. We know Jeremiah had a son, John Connor (1820-1865), and a daughter, Margaret Connor Sullivan (1839-1895), but we are still looking for another son of Jeremiah who would have been our great-great-grandfather. The family was from the Iveragh peninsula in the Portamagee/Cahersiveen area.

Kaceevh,

The baptism records for the RC parish of Cahirciveen begin in Nov 1846, so you will not find records for their children unless they were born after that date.

Regards,

Carolyn

Hi,

Some trees suggest Jeremiah had a son Jeremiah abt. 1815-1883 but there is no supporting documentation. He married Julia Surgrue abt. 1825-1900, children- Timothy 1849, Mary 1852, John 1859, Margaret 1862, Michael 1864, Bridget 1867, Julia.

If Jeremiah had a son Jeremiah in 1815 and the next identified child was born abt. 1830, there might have been several more children. Margaret's, Patrick's, and Timothy's birth year is based on their death records. As Carolyn mentioned above baptisms weren't recorded until 1846.

More research needs to be done. I was trying to figure out why your ??Connor might be in Wales. The military is a possibility. Denis below is from the Iveragh Peninsula.

Thank you for all the information, everyone! We believe Thomas J. Connor's parents left Kerry for Wales in order to earn enough money to immigrate to America but are just basing this on the wave of Irish emigrates moving into Wales in that time period for that purpose. We've also found a record of a Hanoria Driscol md to a Jeremiah Connor from Tralee, and Margaret Connor Sullivan named her daughter Hanoria (Nora) so this lead looks promising. Thank you again for all of your help!
