Cooper Sullivans from Kilgarvan
Hello and Happy NewYear everyone!
Just wondering if anyone could help me with information about the Cooper Sullivan (or Sullivan Cooper or O'Sullivan) family who lived in Kilgarvan. I know that Sullivan searches in Kerry are particularly problematic as there are so many families with this name, so it has helped to know that my Sullivan family had the Cooper nickname. My 2nd great grandmother Margaret Cooper Sullivan was born in Kilbunow in 1829, parents Cornelius Sullivan and Mary Sullivan. She was sent to the Kenmare Workhouse and was selected to be sent to Australia in 1849 when aged 19, as part of the Earl Grey Irish Orphan Girl Scheme. She died in Australia in 1914. I have been trying without success to make contact with any Cooper Sullivans who still live in the Kilgarvan/Kenmare area as I believe there are some still there. I have recently acquired a book called Kilgarvan Moments and Memories, published in 2011, where there are some references to the Cooper Sullivan family. My aim is to try to find out if any of these names are related to me. I would also like to know if there are any family history groups in KIlgarvan or Kenmare who may be able to help, as to date I haven't been able to locate any. Thank you, Del Childs
