William Connally

It would help if you had more details such as your mothers marriage information, any other siblings, when your mother was born, maiden names of grandmother /great grandmother etc , anything that could help to ensure the right family.

Hi, thanks for the reply, my mother was estranged from her father (William) and never visited Ireland so I didn't think it would be of much help, however, my mothers name was Anne Lewis, maiden name Connally, Willaim also had another child Michael Connally, my uncle who grew up with my mother and is still alive - I have the marriage certificate that lists William Connally, whos father was also William Connally who was a retired steelworker, my grandmother married William in London in 1937

William Connally married my grandmother Jessie Marilla Morris, but she was from Wales, but they both lived on the same street in Hatfield London before they got married

I have no other details other than when and where William died (Southend Essex in 1966 aged 56), because he died pre1968 the UK did not record birth dates. I am at a complete dead end especially with the variants with the name Connally

Was William's family Church of Ireland? I found this record on RootsIreland (paid subscription), not necessarily his.

I don't think the dates would match up, I have William my grandfather being born in 1910, so I was thinking his father may be around 1880 at a guess

I haven't subscribed to Roots yet, do you recommend it

The only record for a William Connolly with father William that I could find was for a birth in Clifden Galway 1908, but Clifden is a long way from Tuam (Are you certain about Tuam?)   Would your uncle Michael have any further information about his dad, he is likely the best lead.

Thank you for spending time looking, the first census record looks very promising to me as all the dates match up, I was not 100% on Tuan but I do know the family were/are from Galway so this is great information

Unfortunately my grandfather left the children when they were 1, 2 years old, although they remained married until they both passed, my grandmother destroyed all records, photographs etc and the family didn't ever talk about it, so my mother and her brother had next to no information other than what I have, its a real struggle but I appreciate you help immensely

I apologize I identified the wrong year. 

Both of the records above are interesting. The first record Cooloo Windfield may indicate that this is a second marriage as Julia states the marriage is 11 years, yet there is a son of 14 years so perhaps there was a previous marriage (or not). She also states 7 children born to this marriage with 6 children living.   The second record is interesting as the head of family Mary, has two small children both born in America, no mention of dad.

Following up from your post, after a little more research on the first census link you provided, I have found that William the head of the family died in 1942 and left his estate to John, who is also listed in the census as his son - the most promising part is that the document I am reading which is from the principle register of the high court lists both their names as Connally, not Connelly as listed everywhere else, so I might be able to follow this up knowing that the spelling of the surname did actually change in the records
