Kenny, Faherty, Sullivan, Conneely families
Hello Oughterard !
I am looking to connect with any extended family members from the Oughterard area. My grandmother Margaret Mary (nee Kenny) Cullinane was born in Oughterard in 1898, grew up on Camp Street and immigrated with sister Delia in 1916 to Boston USA. My partial lineage is:
Great-grandfather John Francis Kenny (B. Abt. 1865 Headford, Co. Galway), son of Luke and Ellen nee Taaffe Kenny. Parish records indicate he was born in the Creagh area yet many Petty Session records indicate Headford as birthplace.
Great-grandmother Katherine Faherty (B. 1870 Oughterard, Co. Galway), daughter of Patt Faherty (Abt.1844-1894) and Maria (nee Sullivan) Faherty (Abt.1846-1918). Marias mother was Margaret nee Conneely Sullivan (Abt.1811-1902). Katherine had 11 siblings and many immigrated to USA in the early 1900s, primarily to the Norwood MA area.
John Kenny and Katherine Faherty married in spring 1890 in Oughterard. John was a carpenter and Kate a mid-wife for a local Dr. OBrien (at least later in life). They had 13 children of which only eight lived past the age of 3. Kate and children immigrated to the Boston area by 1921 and it is told that John decided to stay in Oughterard.
I have attached a group photo of Kate Kenny and daughter Delia (b. 1900) taken about 1915. Kate and Delia are on the far left. Kates sister Maria Cecelia Faherty is believed to be on the far right. I would love to know who the others are in the photo!
My wish has always been to visit Oughterard one day and that will happen this year on my first trip. I would love to connect with extended family to shareresearch and knowledge of our families.
Warm regards, Ed O'Brien
