Kelly family

Mountbellew (Galway)

Hello, I am looking for information into a Malachi Kelly, (my 3rd Great Grandfather) born around 1846, and any Kelly connections from Mountbellew, I think his father was also called Malachi Kelly and mother might of been Maria Fallon.

Malachi married a Kenny from Newbridge which is just a few miles away, they went to England with some of the Kenny's to live in Chesterfield and worked as a coal miner. They had a child in 1867 William Was this a common thing to go and work in England, in the minning industry?

I live in County Down, but am visiting Galway soon, so hope to visit Mountbellew

Malachy Kelly and Mary Fallon were married in Ballinasloe in 1831. They also had a son Laurence in 1840.

The Irish were still suffering from the results of the famine, lack of land, food, and opportunity. The English recruited them to work the mines. My grandfather lived in Mayo and a large portion of males in his community went to work the mines.
