Quinn - Heir/Hehir Family

Galway

Hello - I am looking for any information regarding Michael Quinn and Catherine Heir/Hehir/Hair(?).

Their son, James Quinn, is my great-great grandfather.

They were both born c.1919 allegedly in Galway (one website made reference to Tuam for Catherine). They ended up in Australia. Catherine and Michael died in 1874 and 1875 respectively in Inverleigh, Victoria, Australia.

Any information about where in Ireland they came from, their parish, their parents or anything really would be appreciated :)

Thanks.

Michaela,

I assume you meant that Michael and Catherine were born about 1819. On RootsIreland (paid subscription), I found a marriage record for Michael Quinn and Catherine Hare, June 9, 1839, in Castlegar, Galway. Michael's address was B. Choony.

Was James born in Ireland? What year?

Michaela,

The paid site, Roots Ireland, shows the birth of two of their daughters...here is the information:

Honor Quin, 17 May 1841, parents - Michael Quin & Catherine Heher, residence - Bohannachonna, sponsors - Patrick Monahan & Margaret Ormsby, parish - Castlegar, Galway

Mary Quin, 24 Nov 1843, parents - Michael Quin & Catherine Hare, residence - B. Choona, sponsors - M. Quin & Honor Blake, Castlegar, Galway

Carolyn

Michaela,

The baptism records for the RC parish of Castlegar began in 1827, so you will not find a baptism record for Michael Quin or his wife Catherine.

Regards,

Carolyn

Thanks Mary and Carolyn. Much appreciated.

To answer your question, no I believe James was born in 1851, meaning they would have been in Australia by then.

Aside from the unobtainable baptism records, is there any way of discerning who either Michael or Catherine’s parents were?

Thanks again, Michaela.

Michaela,

There are 96 trees on Ancestry, only 2 have suggestions for Catherine's parents none for Michael. They all identify them both being born in 1819 .As Carolyn mentioned, baptismal records aren.t available. If Michael and Catherine used the traditional Irish naming pattern for their children, Catherine's parents might be James and Honora and Michael's Patrick and Mary. Also note on their immigration record Michael was born in 1822 and Catherine 1821. Dates are always questionable.

I found this record on Ancestry. Not necessarily your Michael's
